Alpbachtal is also home to Tirol’s warmest swimming lake, but even so, lake swimming here is still not advised during the winter!
However, it is the skiing, which lasts from mid-December until April, which first attracts the majority of visitors to self catering Alpbachtal accommodation. The friendly atmosphere and abundance of learner slopes, ski schools and large private chalets in Alpbachtal make it an absolute delight for family skiing holidays, but experts can be found regularly bursting through fresh powder falls in the many off piste areas surrounding the town. There are 50km of pistes, the longest of which is a great 8 km stretch, and there are plenty of opportunities to try the pistes of the neighbouring Kitzbuheler and Ziller Valleys on a single pass.
During the summer months, Alpbachtal is a haven for walkers. The surrounding mountain peaks are wonderfully diverse, from gently sloping ridges to craggy rock faces providing terrain suited to every level and style of mountaineering.
