The beautiful Austrian village of St Wolfgang (5 min drive), nestles on the shores of Lake Wolfgang in the region of lakes and mountains known as the Salzkammergut. It is home to the famous operetta and hotel, The White Horse Inn and in addition, in the heart of Sound of Music land. The region is a popular holiday destination throughout the year, with outdoor activities, cultural events, historical sights & local festivals. The village has a lovely ambiance day and night with many cafe's, restaurants and shops. Other beautiful villages on the lake include St. Gilgen (home of Mozart's Mother & Sister) and Strobl (beautiful promenade). The area is excellent for a whole range of activities including walking and cycling. There is a full range of water sports including water skiing, sailing and windsurfing. In winter there is skiing on the Postalm and the extensive Dachstein West ski region, with 165km of runs is comfortably reachable by car in 40 min.

Close to the beautiful villages of St. Wolfgang and Strobl, this chalet is just 40 minutes drive from Salzburg Airport. In the winter, enjoy the Christmas Markets around Lake Wolfgang (St. Wolfgang, Strobl & St. Gilgen) and the ski slopes of Dachstein-West and Postalm are but a short drive away. In the summer, the Schafbergbahn train ride up the mountain behind St. Wolfgang is a must, along with the cable car ride up the Zwolferhorn in St. Gilgen. With so many lakes and mountains to see and beautiful towns such as Bad Ischl, Mondsee (Sound of Music) and Hallstatt (world heritage site) as well as the salt mines at Altaussee, Hallstatt and Bad Durenberg, visitors will always enjoy themselves in this wonderfully beautiful area.

Notes: The Chalet comprises the old and the new. In the winter, snuggle up to the kachelofen (tiled fire) or alternatively, in the summer, enjoy a sundowner at the bar, whilst the sun sets over the mountains in front of you. The Lodge is situated 4km from St. Wolfgang and Strobl, where several shops/supermarkets can be found. The Chalet is primarily self-catering, however, we also offer a bed & breakfast facility, where our staff will come in on a daily basis and prepare a continental breakfast. Ski Information: The family ski area of Postalm is 20 minutes away by car. This is fantastic for beginners and intermediates with a whole range of wide sunny blue and red runs. It also offers great cross-country skiing The Dachstein West area offers 165km of easy to difficult runs. Gosau / Russbach can be reached in 40 minutes from the chalet. Dachstein-Krippenstein in Obertraun also offers excellent skiing including the longest run in the area from top to bottom of the mountain - 11km in total. Skiing is also available in St. Gilgen (Zwolferhorn), Bad Ischl (Katrin), Ebensee (Feuerkogel) and Altaussee (Loser). There is so much opportunity for skiing in and around the area, all within 50 minutes drive from the chalet.

Golf Information: For the golfer, the Wolfgang Valley has to be one of the most magnificent courses to play. Surrounded on all sides by mountains, this sunny course is very popular in the area. Other golf courses are in Mondsee and Bad Aussee.

Other General Information: This area is offers a whole range of activities for the whole year. Lake swimming is popular with many attractive beaches and surprisingly warm water from July to Sept. It is safe and the water is of drinking quality. There are so many historic places to visit, including the famous church in St. Wolfgang, famous for it's Alter by Pacher. Walking around the lake is beautiful, such as the pilgrim route, an historic 11km walk from St Wolfgang to St. Gilgen, returning by ferry. In the surrounding area there are plenty of places to visit including the historical village of Hallstatt, salt mines & ice caves. The nearby spa town of Bad Ischl , which was once the summer retreat of the Austrian Royal family is a popular destination, with its thermal baths renowned for their healing properties. Salzburg is about an hour away by bus, or 40 minutes by car. Visit Mondsee and see the cathedral used in the Sound of Music, Gmunden for the pottery or take a train ride up the Schafberg.

WOW!!! Is the best way to describe this accommodation. We all felt that "chalet" doesn't do this justice. This house is luxurious. With its polished wooden floors,super comfortable furniture and well equipped kitchen you couldn't ask for a better base. Great for Skiing, pre Christmas for the enchanting markets or a Summer holiday in the breathtaking Salzburg Lake district.
It's location is great too. It is within strolling distance of St Wolfgang and Wolfgang See resorts and a short drive from Bad Ischl and Salzburg. It is set amongst rolling hills with mountainous peaks in the distance. We intend to stay twice this year.
Well worth the money in every respect.
