Charming home away from home in peaceful location

When I found this little gem of a property online last year I couldn't believe my luck, but the photo's couldn't prepare me for the reality of being able to live here for 6 whole days - this little home away from home is just awesome in every sense of the word! From the quaint layout over 3 storeys (ground, 1st & 2nd) to more cutlery, crockery and linen than my husband and I could use in a week, this place has it all. A Bosch washer/dryer with a manual in french and dutch on the actual machine but I still found easy to use as someone who is english speaking, a full-size ironing board and a Phillips iron - all things that are important when you're travelling and living out of a suitcase. Smeg dishwasher, microwave/convection oven and hotplates complete the list of high-end appliances that you will find in this truly amazing home, though I do admit I didn't actually cook while here but opted to eat out. As a couple living here, we decided to use the main bedroom as a dressing/ironing/suitcase room as the bathroom is off the main bedroom and we slept in the attic which is nice and cosy and with the skylite open slightly you can hear the gentle chiming of the church bells in the morning and the horse-drawn carriages trotting off to work each day - absolute bliss! As for location, it couldn't be more perfect with the Market Square being only a 5 to 10 minute walk, depending on how much window shopping we did along the way! Being able to retire at the end of each day back to our little oasis in a quiet and peaceful location was lovely and a stroll after dinner along the canals surrounding the property was a memorable way to end the day. Raphael, the owner, was lovely and accommodating throughout my dealings with him and the house was exactly as described. Nice and clean with super-comfy king beds, we seriously didn't want for anything during our stay. As for where to eat, we took a shine to 'Bistro De Schilder' which is just around the corner in the square where the Jan van Eyck statue is. Their 'Flemish Beef Stew' is to die for and their Rib-eye steak was one of the best we've ever eaten and all at reasonable prices with fantastic service to match the quality of their food. Another must-do is Quasimodo's 'Flanders Fields WW1 Full Day Tour' if you're interested. They picked us up from the house and we had a brilliant day. Other than that we found great enjoyment in just strolling the streets and appreciating all that beautiful Brugge has to offer.
