Playa de las Americas holiday villa: Playa de Las Americas

Firstly the only good thing about where we stayed for our New Year break - the location is excellent with everything to hand from lovely beaches, top quality restaurants and fun nightlife.

It's just as well that outside was so good, because we could hardly bear to spend time in the villa where we had to sleep. We arrived late at night and flopped straight into bed. Waking up the next morning I can only describe the reaction of eight people as shock and disappointment with the state of the place. We went straight down the supermarket, loaded up withy cleaning stuff and marigold gloves - and spent the first day of our much-needed holiday removing the following;-
- cockroach droppings in the kitchen cupboards (yuk).
- a greasy film on the kitchen work surfaces.
- thick layer of congealed fat in the grill pan
- splattered diarrhea (runs) around the base of the ground floor toilet (yes really)
- stains and grease covering the outside furniture - well we did our best, but most was too ingrained to shift
- dirt, dust and garden waste covering the outside patio flags
- hair and soap scum stains in the shower tray on the first floor
- etc etc.

We couldn't do anything about the badly stained mattresses, obscene graffiti on the wall of one wardrobe, general poor quality of furniture and fittings, flaked off plaster and scuffs on the walls and so on.

We paid a lot of money for our week - for the amount charged we expected something around four star quality, even at the high season of New Year. What we got was a week in a horrible villa - and a landlord who tried to discredit our concerns and was not prepared to do anything. We suspect he is well used to dealing with complaints and just toughs it out.

We have photos of everything mentioned above, and if I can work out how to do it I will attach them to this review as a warning to others.

We recently stayed in a villa in Compostela Beach and I must say the location is excellent, There are many bars and restaurants with lots of entertainment to keep you amused each night. The variety of restaurants is also excellent and you are right in the middle of all the shops, little boutiques as well as all the designer shops if you want to buy something special! The resort itself is nicely laid out with a good sized pool and 2 bars/restaurants where you can stay in and be entertained also (although that leaves a lot to be desired!). You are also right beside a beautiful beach if you prefer to swim in the sea. The villa had 3 floors and was very roomy. The garden was quite small and although the sofas were new, the rest of the place could do with an update as it is a bit old, especially the beds. We didn't think much of the cleaning, it could have been much better, obviously it had been empty for a while as all the garden furniture was covered in cobwebs and dust and we didn't have enough bedding or towels. Overall it is a lovely area with lots of places to stay, had a wonderful holiday.
