Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, located 60 miles off the coast of Morocco. It is blessed with sandy beaches and a temperate climate all year round. With 3,000 hours of sunshine every year, the average temperature varies from 62F in January to 77F in August. There are many enormous sand dunes, long sandy beaches and isolated rocky coves on the island, with surfing and wind-surfing a speciality. The golf course at Caleta de Fuste was home to the 2004 Spanish Open, and has now been extended to 36 holes. You are never short of things to do in Caleta de Fuste as it boast some fine shops and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema, plus ten-pin bowling and an excellent Spa facility. Water sports and boat trips are available from the harbour, with whale watching, sea lions and dolphin cruises as specialities. The nightlife provides live music and a wide variety of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. If needed, taxis are cheap and plentiful.
