Desert Rose is finished to a high standard. 5 bedroom Villa: The Villa includes a wonderful master bedroom with a cathedral high ceiling which can be used as a bridal suite. Five large bedrooms and lounge have access to the 1000sqft covered patio which surrounds the pool deck and swimming pool. The patio includes a bar, outside seated dining for 10 and comfortable furnishings. This villa is ideal for wedding parties or family vacations and is walking distance (5 min) to beach, restaurants and shops. Some of the finest golf courses in the Caribbean are within a 5 min drive radius, eg Sandy Lane and Royal Westmoreland. The owners have membership of Royal West Moreland and consequently able to introduce our guests at reduced rates. There is also a 20%discount offered at the salon and spa at the Colony Club Hotel.Two maids clean and tidy your villa 5 days a week and change linen and towels. They will also babysit for a nominal cost.

Restaurants ,shopping malls,surfside sport and beach bar,cocomo's family restaurant and of course the popular beach with its water sport activities-water sking,catamaran sailing,snorkaling and calm water swimming are literally less than 5 mins walking distance away. For golf enthusiasts Royal Westmoreland golf course is only 5 mins by car from the villa. We have preferred golf fees for this viila.We can also arrange weddings, catering, and flowers. It is an ideal location for the wedding ceremony. We also own a spa at Colony Club Hotel and guests of this villa receive a 20% discount on beauty and hair treatments.

Not Really Luxury

I stayed at Desert Rose with my extended family, age range 69 years (me) to 17 months for 2 weeks over Christmas and the New Year. It is well located and the pool and living areas are nice. However the place does NOT have "5 large bedrooms". I would describe them as 1 large, 2 medium, 1 small, and 1 cupboard (just enough room for a small double bed, with an unfinished wardrobe blocking the entrance.) The "wonderful master bedroom" is a bit like Aida's tomb - no windows, but fixed louvres so it is dark and you can neither see out, nor let light in, nor close them to exclude mosquitoes and use the air conditioning. A bizarre design, as it could have had a window on to the pool. The two maids were nice enough and helpful, they come weekdays only. They could do with better supervision - my wife had to clean the wardrobe shelves before we could unpack our clothes. The owner is not technical. We had to fix up the wireless internet, and even then it could only be accessed from outside the kitchen (not convenient in the rain) or from his laundry. Going next door to use his study is not an acceptable option. Neither he nor the maid initially knew how to light the oven - but she did find out the next day. We worked out how the answerphone worked (and wrote it in the house book). We will not be staying here again.
Owner's Response: The maids are available at weekends if required.We are surprised at the comments re design, as most of our guests enjoy the ambience of Desert Rose and we as the owners are satisfied with the result. We set out to make our guests as comfortable as we possibly can and respond promptly to any complaints they may have.

Great place for a get away

First trip to Barbados - 6 adults and 3 kids stayed at the Desert Rose, and it was an excellent base for exploring Holetown and the rest of the island. Great layout, felt very private in the pool area. Perfect location in Holetown - easy access to plenty of beaches, restaurants, and bars. Outdoor lounge was great for long dinners and drinks around the pool at night. The kids all loved it there, and the daily maids were quite helpful and friendly. Only warning is that the kitchen oven was a total lemon... was impossible to rely on it for cooking. Not terrible since there was an outdoor grill, but it was a bit of a surprise when we tried to cook dinner in it.

A Great Find

We recently stayed here and had a wonderful relaxing holiday. My husband and I took our 4 children aged 4 - 13 years. The villa is spacious, clean and very well equipped with every facility we could have hoped for. It has a fantastic pool which the kids loved! The beach is only a 5 min walk as is a good selection of restaurants and bars. Harry Newitt, the owner, was extremely helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definately go back and recommend to anyone else looking for a villa holiday in Barbados.

Excellent Holiday

We had an amazing time and the villa was superb. I was surprised to read the negative reports on this site. The setting is perfect. Walking distance from shops, bars and the beach, yet you have total privacy. The pool area is relaxing and the interior is clean and spacious. I would wonder where else in the world you could sleep 10 people comfortably for such a reasonable price?. A trip of a life time, the only problem was we were only there one week... two would have been better!

Exceeded our expectations

We stayed at Desert Rose earlier in the year and thought it was fantastic. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner (Harry) who was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction of places to go locally.
The villa is not beach fronted, but that wasn't a concern for us, as it was only a 5 min walk away, also to shops/bars/restaurants etc.
I do agree that the kitchen isn't state of the art but it served us enough to be able to do what we wanted and the BBQ was the main thing we used anyway. I felt the pictures shown do give a good representation of the property.
We would definately return to Desert Rose if the situation arises, thought it was a great location, with great owner and very good standard of accommodation throughout (the maids were also excellent). Would highly recommend it for a big family holiday!
