Bridgetown - The capital of Barbados, Bridgetown is a bustling commercial city set alongside the beautiful Carlisle Bay. Also in the residential areas, visitors staying at holiday homes will see their side streets scattered with rum shops and chattel houses. One of the sites worth seeing is Bridgetown’s synagogue, which was first built in the 1600s when there was a significant Jewish population in Barbados.

Holetown - Although Holetown is Barbados’ oldest town, founded in the 1620s, it is one of the country’s most modern cities. The most popular site for visitors staying at Holetown’s holiday homes is the Folkestone Park, which is a narrow beach where you can picnic, surf, swim, and snorkel. Additionally, the park has its own museum with exhibits on fishing and boat building.

St Lawrence - Along the southwest coast of Barbados with a cluster of small towns with excellent beaches, a holiday rental, home, or villa in St. Lawrence is perfect for visitors who are looking for a holiday away from the hubbub of tourists. However don’t expect your holiday home in St. Lawrence to far away from the action because it about 15km southeast of Bridgetown and has plenty to offer in terms of eating out and going out at night. St. Lawrence’s Dover Beach is its most popular beach, with purely white sand and a few minutes west of the beach are the small towns of Worthing and Hastings, which have interesting local arts and crafts.

Activities and Things to Do in Barbados

Barbados Museum - Located in what was once a 19th-century military prison; the Barbados Museum has interesting exhibits on the island's history, from the colonial era to slavery and emancipation. There's also an interactive African culture gallery for children who are in Barbados on a family holiday.

Barbados Wildlife Reserve - The Barbados Wildlife Reserve is a walk-through zoo with paths going forests of monkeys, brocket deer, iguanas, agoutis, and a caiman pond. There's also a small aviary with caged parrots, and uncaged peacocks and pelicans.

Sunbury Plantation House - Built in the late 1600s, the gorgeous Sunbury Plantation House was built of local coral blocks and ballast stones. The interior maintains its plantation-era style with antiques made mainly from Barbadian mahogany. When at the Sunbury plantation make sure to have lunch or tea at the Courtyard restaurant.

Tyrol Cot Heritage Village - A traditional Bajan village built on the former home of Barbados’ first premier, Sir Grantley Adams. The site includes chattel houses and several local artists working and selling their crafts and a working blacksmith. Stop by the stables when visiting, which have been converted into a restaurant in replica of a rum shop.

Welchman Hall Gully - Welchman Hall Gully is a lush walking track with nearly 200 species of lush tropical plants. It is one of the only remnants of the forests that covered Barbados before the English arrived.

Weather in Barbados

Barbados is a year-round destination for a holiday rental home, or villa. In January, the average daily high temperature is 28°C. While in July, temperatures come down to an average high of 30°C but it is also the wettest month.

Travel to Barbados

Barbados' Grantley Adams International Airport is on the island's southern coast, 16km southeast of Bridgetown. BWIA (British West Indies Air, based out of Trinidad) has flights from London, Frankfurt and Zurich, while British Airways and Virgin Atlantic fly to Barbados from London-Gatwick. In season, a band and complimentary rum punch greet arriving passengers.
