There are many things for holidaymakers to do on the biggest islands of Roatan, Guanaja and Utila. Scuba diving is a popular pastime here given the islands are host to the second largest barrier reef system in the world. Other water sports are available at Bay Islands including kayaking, sailing, and fishing with good quantities of Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna found here. There are some good areas for hiking with lots of resplendent flora and fauna to be found on the islands. There are a few markets selling fresh produce and the big islands have a number of shops to purchase souvenirs from. A lot of shops can be found at West End on Roatan.

The islands enjoy a tropical climate with average sea temperatures approximately 29 degrees centigrade with the warmest month usually September. However, the average temperature rarely dips below 25 degrees centigrade at any time of the year. Visitors can expect about 12 hours of sunshine per day between April and August. The rainy season begins in October and extends through to February, peaking in December.

Travel to Bay Islands Honduras

The official airline for Honduras, Sol Air, flies from Miami to San Pedro Sula on the Honduran mainland twice daily. There are direct connections to Guanaja, Utila and Roatan. TACA flies directly to Roatan from Miami and Houston. The airline also flies from Los Angeles, New Orleans and San Francisco, with connecting flights to the islands. Travellers from Europe can fly to Miami and get a connecting flight to Honduras or Roatan Island. Flights to Miami depart from London-Heathrow, Madrid, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich.
