Not for the faint of heart or luxury seeking

This home has a fantastic view and location. While we had a wonderful visit, it was not with out some glitches.
The house has no screened areas, so bring lots of bug spray! The coffee pot was broken, the blender did not work. (we purchased mangos at the market and promised the kids mango smoothies one night which we could not make) The toliet in the kids bathroom leaked the whole time so we ended up using one bathroom most of the time. This could be a great place , but it needs some repair/upkeep work. Loved the pool, it was clean and well cared for. The girls loved the piano, as we don't have one at home and they played alot of times together on it. The housekeeper was nice, her meal she cooked for us was as the owner said, local and tasty. You most definitly need a car here and the one provided was a bit of a surprise . THere were spiders and bugs in it and we had to clean it out before getting into it. The tape on the steering wheel and the sock on the gear shift and no passernger side rear-view mirror were a challenge, as well as the broken seat belt. Lucklly we are a camping family ,so we are resourceful when it comes to things like this and we made the best of it. We did however cut our stay short by two days to head to St. Vincent for a little bit of luxury before heading hime. Bequia is a perfect island for and exploring family. We loved the Turtle Farm, must do the Friendshop Rose trip the the Tabago Cays and loved the pastries the Doris's husband makes for breakfast. Mac's has the best pizza, we ate there three times! Dive Bequia was great in geting the whole family into Scuba Diving. Would definilty go back and stay again. Probably in the same area, and if some repairs were done, the same home.
Owner's Response: I can only apologise for the fact that the coffee maker and juicer were broken when guests were there. As I was in England at the time, I had no idea that they were broken and my housekeeper normally replaces all appliances as and when they break. As we had guests pretty constantly. I can only assume this was an oversight. However, the leaky toilet was noted and because it only happened when guests arrived, my housekeeper immediately called a plumber who said it was quite a big job and as we did not want to disturb guests with workmen, it was decided to leave the work until they had left and that they would use the other toilet in the the house. The mosquitoes were a big problem in Bequia this year but I can assure future guests that where I live, in the hills at Spring, there is a constant breeze and mosquitoes are minimal. They come out at night and the electric fans and mosquito nets are normally sufficient. However, this year, I have been told by friends in Bequia that during the rainy season when these guests were in the house, there was no wind at all. Even the sea was totally still and the east wind disappeared, which is highly unusual. One friend, who lives at Hope where it is always very windy no matter what time of year, told me that he had mosquitoes for the first time in his memory. My home is not a modern house and is filled with local crafts and antiques. It is a beautiful place and in the 6 years I have been renting, I have never had any problems. The car has always been mechanically sound and I do apologise for the sock on the gear stick! This has since been fixed and I now employ a manager to make sure all details are taken care of when I am not in Bequia. I must add that I do not charge for the car - it is a courtesy vehicle and if guests want a more luxurious vehicle, I advise them to rent one.
