Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in the Dalmatian Islands your home away from home
The Adriatic Coast of Croatia is filled with over 1,000 islands and reefs hiding tranquil coves, bustling coastal towns and idyllic villages clinging gamely to steep rocky valleys. These beautiful islands are an essential holiday destination if you are travelling through Croatia, and a holiday rental on any of the Dalmatian Islands provides the perfect place to relax and explore, especially if this is your first time in this staggeringly beautiful region.
Things to do on holiday in the Dalmatian Islands
Each Island has a unique atmosphere, comprised by the staggering range of natural landscapes, architecture and lovely cities, many of which grace the UNESCO World Heritage list, meaning that a generic guide to the Dalmatian Islands is very hard to write.
With such a long and important history in the Mediterranean area, the Dalmatian Islands are like a large open air museum, hosting an astounding number of memorable and intriguing palaces, castles, battle fields, galleries and museums depicting periods from across the last 10 centuries.
A holiday in the Dalmatian Islands is not all about the past though. These are the perfect places for relaxing beach holidays and gently touring. The beaches of the Dalmatian Islands are blissfully quiet, with the azure waters of the Adriatic lapping quietly on sand, pebble and rocky beaches, many of which you will have all to yourself.
Island hopping and cycle touring on the islands is a great way to discover the ideal place to return to next year, or simply to discover hidden parts of the region.
Places to go on holiday in the Dalmatian Islands
The largest of the Dalmatian Islands, Brac, proudly boasts the most beautiful Adriatic beach you can find, Golden Cape Beach. Perfect for sun, sea and sand holidays, and with the peaceful yet lively resorts of Bol, Pastura and Supetar Splitska to choose from, a self catering Brac villa is an idyllic place for both romantic beach retreats and family getaways.
Hvar is one of the most popular centres off the Dalmatian Coast, as the delightful mediaeval port city of the same name is adorned with a range of exotic palaces and tranquil monasteries. The city is made all the more endearing by the complete absence of cars!
Ciovo is a perfect island for family beach holidays, free from many of the tourist traps, and Korcula, the greenest and most remote of the Dalmatian Islands is also a massive attraction for visitors to the region.
Weather in the Dalmatian Islands
Summers are gloriously sunny in the Dalmatian Islands, with summer averages hitting around 28?C, perfect for lazy days on the beach or playing in a boat, but also not too hot to investigate the wealth of culture available on the islands. Winters are extremely mild too, averaging around 9?C.
Flights to the Dalmatian Islands
The Dalmatian Islands have managed to remain off the mass tourist radar due to the fact that there is no International Airport situated on any of the islands. This does not however mean that a holiday rental in the Dalmatian Islands is painful to reach. Split International Airport receives daily cheap flights from across the UK, and there are regular boats and rapid hydrofoils which service the islands. For villas on the island of Korcula, Dubrovnik International Airport is even closer than Split.
