Famagusta Town is fascinating. Occupied in 1974 by the Turkish military, half the town is a 'ghost town', with breakfast tables still left out, and shops filled with clothes, now decades out of fashion. It is still a de-militarised zone, and can be seen clearly from the new buzzing seaside resort of Famagusta town and the luxury villas there. The spectacular ruins of the Roman amphitheatre, baths and tombs are easy to explore, and the mosaics of the monastery of St Barnabas are beautiful.

The most famous resort in Cyprus is Ayia Napa. The resort used to be famed for its nightlife, clubs and wild parties. While the facilities like go-carting, bungee jumping, helicopter rides and extensive water park remain, the 18-30s culture is being replaced by a culture of family holidays. The beaches here are large and shallow, and swimming is safe, and there are endless activities to be enjoyed, so a Famagusta villa in Ayia Napa is a great choice for a family holiday in Cyprus.

For a slightly quieter beach resort, Protaras is a resort town with a fantastic blue flag beach, and boast some of the finest restaurants and bars on the whole island. There are also top class facilities for both paragliding and jet skiing.
