Further details for this holiday villa rental in Episkopi, Cyprus

Cyprus:-: Cyprus is the third largest Island in the Mediterranean, it is an island of beauty and a country of contrasts. Cool, pine-clad mountains are a complete scene-change after golden sun-kissed beaches. Tranquil, timeless villages are in striking contrast to modern cosmopolitan towns. Luxurious beach side hotels can be exchanged for large areas of natural unspoilt countryside. Yet in Cyprus all distances are easily manageable, mostly on modern roads and highways - with a secondary route or two for the more adventurous. The summers are long and hot, fruit trees buckle under the weight of their bounty as do the vines, the grapes of which go into producing some fine local wines. The Island has long been of great strategic importance and boasts the legacy of many of its occupying empires, fortifications built by the Crusaders still stand. A villa holiday here is idyllic, there is lots to see and plenty to do, the welcome is warm and the weather likewise.

Episkopi Village:- : The warmth and rich hospitality you will find here are as sincere and old as Cyprus itself. This is a corner of Cyprus as yet untouched by mass commercial development. Whether your shopping in the local store or enjoying a Cyprus coffee at one of the 'Kafeneon's' you may well be surprised at the locals interest shown in visitors from cooler climes. Local places of interest include an Weaving & folklore Museum at Phiti village, annual tulip festival at Polemi village in April and May plus an abundance of local wineries making excellent days out. In or around Episkopi Village you will find many restaurants (one within walking distance of Villa Serma).

Local Shopping:-: Part and parcel of any holiday is the question of what to take home. Leather is very good value. The shoe shops stock up-to-date styles at very reasonable prices. Handbags, suitcases and jackets are a good bargain. Shoes and jackets, as well as men's suits and shirts, can be made-to-measure within a week or so. Handicrafts abound on every shopping street. A good spot to view them is the Cyprus Handicraft Centre in Lefkosia, with retail shops in every town. Small items of the distinctive, traditional pottery make good gifts, and so does Cyprus copper ware and filigree silver. Always popular is the beautiful 'Lefkaritika' or ' Lefkara Lace'. Folkweave or 'Phitiotica lace' as it best known can be seen being made in the nearby village of Phiti, it really is worth a visit. The village of Panayia has two high quality wineries with special wines made from the locally picked grapes among the best in the region.

Golf:

Tsada Golf Club which is just 20 minutes from Paphos town, on an elevated position 550 meters above sea level to ensure cool breezes during the summer months. Villa Serma Episkopi, Paphos.

Review Submitted: April 12, 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
This stone house is in a relatively remote village 30 minutes from the waterfront at Paphos. A car is absolutely essential as there are few facilities in the village. There is a beautiful view down the valley from the house and terrace and it receives sun from morning until late afternoon (in April). The village is very peaceful and the terrace and pool area are private and not overlooked. The pool was used every day by us but is cold at this time of year.

The house has good facilities with large fridge freezer, cooker, grill and washing machine. We did some self catering but eat out most days. The bedroom accommodation was as described and suited our family of 2 adults and 2 older children. Two couples could easily be accommodated. There is a bathroom with bath and good shower and an additional toilet downstairs. Hot water is plentiful and the cold water is drinkable. The house was clean and everything worked fine apart from the DVD which was not connected to the TV. Costas the owner fixed this for us on day 3. We took a few DVD's with us but local TV is very limited (2 stations).

The terrace area has many steps as the property is built on a terraced hillside. The property is therefore not suitable for those with disabilities or limited mobility.

On the negative side, going anywhere is quite an expedition, particularly at night when it is pitch black, although the roads are very good but windy. Right hand drive cars and driving on the left obviously make things easier in this respect. There are no visitor notes at the villa and so we were left to our own devices in terms of finding places to eat. Mostly we avoided the waterfront tourist traps and tended to use smaller tavernas in the surrounding villages. Food is good value with a meal for 4 with drinks costing in the region of 50 Euros. Double that for Paphos itself.

There is lot to see in the area. We could have spent weeks exploring just the Paphos / West coast areas. Car parking is cheap and easy and the tourist attractions are also very good value.

Overall I would reccommend this villa for more adventurous travellers and those who like peace and quiet. Be prepared to do plenty of driving and have a good map !

Lovely mountain retreat

Review Submitted: October 7, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
We stayed at Villa Serma for 18 days with our children, their partners and an infant of 2 years. The villa was more than adequate, and the pool area was certainly the highlight of our stay! Gorgeous views over the river valley and their olive groves from all aspects of the house. Episkopi is a small village 12 kms up the mountain valley from Paphos and as such afforded cooler climates and peace and quiet. The local taverna (see facebook Episkopi coffee shop) is definitely the place to be for a very affordable and tasty meal and drinks. The owner Solagis and his wife make you feel part of the local fabric. The views from the taverna are absolutely amazing, and in a breezeless evening, probably the only spot to find any wind at all! And the best thing: Villa Serma is just a roll down the hill away (or walk, if you are capable) ;-)
Chris, the owner of the villa comes by regularly to check and see if you want for anything, and keeps the pool quite spotless. All in all, a wonderful stay if you are looking for something mroe traditional than the "Blackpool in the sun" of downtown Paphos.
Only recommendations we would make: Provide fencing around the pool patio for safety of small children, provide some fans in the house for much needed air circulation in the month of August when you are not a fan (excuse the pun) of airconditioning. The airco works extremely well, but are only found in the bedrooms. For lounging in the downstairs area it could sometimes get a bit stifling in August. However, when you visit in more comfortable months in regards to the temperature, this may not be an issue.
The car service was excellent, we were duly met at the airport and everythign was very well organized. Thank you Chris and Christine!
The Coupe family.
