Polis & Latchi Area holiday villa: 8852

Had a great eleven day break in this villa.
Good points: 1.Location, for us it was perfect (that's why we chose this area) good walking and good fun driving on the rough roads and getting lost, would also be great for those who enjoy cycling/mountain biking. Also easy to drive to the Troodos mountains. The views from the villa are stunning, we found it hard some days to drag ourselves away and go out.
2.Choice of restaurants, we ate out quite a lot and did lots of research beforehand, and in most cases were not disappointed. One notable exception was Porto Latchi, which we had been looking forward to visiting to try the fish meze. Although the food was fine, the boss and his staff were pretty unfriendly and seemed to have the attitude that because they were so well established we were of little importance. I would say dont be tempted by the great location of Porto Latchi you wont have to go far to find comparable food with much friendlier service. Worth a special mention, and within walking distance, is The Stone Castle Tavern, opposite the co-op store in Neo Chorio, very friendly, welcoming and relaxed.
3.The friendly people are one of the reasons we came back to Cyprus, and we were not disappointed on this trip.
4.The weather was great if a little too hot at times (36c)didn't walk as much as we had planned.
5.Villa owners. Very helpful and quick to reply to enquiries. Thanks.

Not so good points:
1.No dishwasher! Although there was just the two of us, on the days when we cooked at the villa and also when we had a couple of barbecues, we would have liked to have avoided the washing up, maybe a minor point for some, but we were on holiday after all. We did notice in the villa description there was no mention of a dishwasher, but were hoping it had been overlooked.
2.The dogs next door. It would have been nice to have had a couple of lie-ins bearing in mind we were on holiday. Sadly we were woken at around 6.30 every morning by the dogs barking next door. A couple of times we made the most of it and watched the sunrise while having an early breakfast, nice, but it would have been nicer still to have had a proper nights sleep.
Finally, I would say the good far outweighs the notsogood, and we would definately consider returning, and would recommend this villa to others.

We thought the location of this villa was fantastic for exploring the Akamas peninsular, Polis, Latchi and the lovely village of Neo Chorio - complete with resident donkey. We stayed as an extended family of 7 in the villa, 3 couples and a three year old and found there was ample room for all inside and outside and the villa was well equipped with washing machine, cooker, microwave, juicer, coffee machine etc and nicely furnished. The pool outside was a great bonus for those days when you really didn't want to drive anywhere, just relax by the pool, enjoy the view and BBQ . It got the sun pretty much all of the day and had plenty of space to sit beside it to eat/drink etc.

Only dissapointment we found with the villa was the fourth double bedroom in the basement which was dark and musty with just one small window close to the store room for the pool filter so was noisy if you had the bedroom window open. The bathroom for this bedroom was also in the utility room next door which at night meant going outside and into the room next door which had a toilet and shower and a kitchen sink for face/handwashing although you could go upstairs and use toilet and handbasin there. So was a bit of a dissapointment for the couple that had this double as the other upstairs double rooms were lovely and light with balconies and nice bathrooms - showers were great

The proximity to the village of Neo Chorio was great for walking down for a coffee or meal, only five mins stroll. We tried three of the restaurants and found them all to be good and very friendly although there was also a great choice of fish restaurants at the bottom of the hill in Latchi and a bit further on in Polis. Also plenty of choice for vegetarians! The taverna at the Aphrodites Rock about 10 mins drive is lovely in the evening for a drink ( we didn't eat ) when it is quieter and has a lovely view of the coastline although beware of the pushy lady in her van in the car park selling peaches!

Good playpark for smaller kids near the beach at Latchi. Also easily accessible to Paphos about 40 mins to do historical sites etc.

We found the best sandy beach was at Lara and very quiet although the track isn't great but manageable by regular car if you are careful as the other beaches closeby are shingly and stony so not ideal for any sandcastle makers and most are quite near the road.

The property was well maintained and clean and tidy and we would recommend it to others given our comments above.
