Photos and Description of this Kyrenia Region holiday house 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms - sleeps 4

Mulberry House is a charming property in the peaceful haven of Karmi/Karaman, 4 miles west of Kyrenia and 1000' above sea level. It has been restored in the traditional manner - flagged floors, beamed ceilings, stone arches and roof terrace with spectacular views, set in an array of flowers, plants and trees. The house comprises two wonderfully cool bedrooms downstairs; master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, twin bedroom with Cypriot beds. Stairs lead upstairs to an open plan living room and study furnished with comfortable seating and open fireplace, fully equipped kitchen with seating for 4-6 and extra WC outside. Doors at the back open out on to a delightful private shady courtyard garden with view of the mountains, at the side to a spacious balcony with seating and spiral staircase leading to the roof terrace where panoramic views along the coastline can be enjoyed. The house is very relaxing, suitable for a peaceful retreat for the discerning or a fun family holiday.

Karmi is undoubtedly the prettiest and most well-kept village in Northern Cyprus. Time here seems to have stood still; little cobbled streets meander around, running mountain streams and wild-life are the only sounds you are likely to hear. Amenities in the village include use of swimming pool at the Hilarion Village, a shop, 2 restaurants, pub, bar & coffee shop. 10 mins down the hill supermarkets, shops, beaches & restaurants can be found.

North Cyprus: North Cyprus is the perfect refuge from everyday life - a real retreat. With its wonderfully pleasant & healthy Mediterranean climate it is untouched by mass tourism. Beaches range from ones with full facilities, conservation beaches to miles of deserted beaches. In Springtime flowers are everywhere making it a walkers paradise. There are many historical sites to explore and Kyrenia harbour is one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. The local people are charming and hospitable, the cuisine superb. As North Cyprus is not in the EU and uses Turkish lira, it is inexpensive holiday destination for 2009 as Euro currency countries are going to be expensive for UK citizens to visit, with the current low exchange rate.

The house was superb and very impressed with the various items left in cupboards from bathroom to front room to kitchen.
The fruit bats in the evening were lovely, tho' a trifle messy, and I got a couple of pix of them and a chamelion that was crossing the path outside..............never seen one in the wild b4. Andy Moore 2007

We had a great time at Mulberry House, we all absolutely loved it. We hope we get the chance to stay there again. Duncan Powell 2005

Holiday at Mulberry House was lovely and quiet - just what we wanted. Sun terrace was ideal for relaxation and
surrounding views are lovely. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Geoff Schofield 2006

I keep thinking of Cyprus and wishing I was back there - sitting in your courtyard with the cats; lying on your roof terrace; cooking in your kitchen; collecting almonds from your tree - so you see I am completely hooked! I will definitely return. M Turner 2004.

Lovely stay in July 2009

Berlin mother Berlin
Review Submitted: October 29, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I stayed in Mulberry House for two weeks in July 2009, with my daughter aged 11. We had a lovely time. The village is amazingly beautifully restored and sits on top of the mountains about 10/15 min drive from the coast. The house owners provided us before the trip with contact details of how to arrange transfer from Lanarca airport to Karmi and having a rental car delivered to the house the next day. Which you would need as it is a bit of a steep ride up the hills, but we got used to it fairly quickly. The house itself was very comfortable and spacious with a cosy and sunny lounge, large kitchen and downstairs bedrooms, that might be a bit dark and cool at the first glance, but it obviously helps a lot with soaring temperatures outside. I loved the original and nostalgic feel of the house, the quietness and the large roof terrace with fantastic views down to the seaside. The water pressure was a bit low, but that’s just something that we noticed but weren’t so bothered about regarding a beach holiday. Many evenings ended on the Spot bar terrace, again with lovely views. The village has interesting characters, meeting spots with lots of very helpful and friendly residents with good suggestions for beaches, pools and food etc. Altogether we had a great and very relaxed time. A perfect idyllic hideaway to explore the area and the "real" Turkish-Cyprus. We would go back.

North Cyprus Villa

Sussex Traveler Rye, East Sussex
Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Mulberry House has the potential to be an excellent holiday villa for up to 4 adults. The location has spectacular views, access to local amenities is good and the altitude gives a pleasant temperature in late summer/early autumn when the coastal plain is hot.
On the ground floor the bathroom is tatty - bath stained, toilet cracked, pipes and taps need descaling. Water was hot but just a trickle due, not to water pressure from the house supply, but to clogged pipes and taps. The main bedroom was comfortable. The second bedroom did not have proper beds but thin cotton-filled cushions on wooden box frames attached to the wall. Uncomfortable!
The first floor had a lovely lounge and dining room and the kitchen, which was of a good size. The kitchen equipment was good except for the cooker, which had 2 of the 4 burners broken and no grill pan. We felt this was unacceptable. The service centre, which services the property, was unable to arrange a repair or replacement. The drinking water tap in the kitchen gave a good strong flow but again the other taps and pipework were badly clogged with scale.
Outside there is a nice, secluded sitting area and steps to the roof where 2 sun beds were provided. The view from the roof over Girne and the coast was magnificent.
The internal decoration of the house was generally in good order. Outside one wall is in need of repainting and there is much evidence of subsidence, with cracks evident in the house and garden walls.
The 'welcome pack' of drinks, milk, bread, wine and beer was a nice touch and much appreciated.
If the main gripes of faulty cooker, uncomfortable beds in 2nd bedroom and clogged up plumbing were remedied I would give the villa an excellent rating.
General comments:
I would say that a car is essential for visitors. There are a few shops and places to eat in the village but it is a long, steep road to the coastal highway where most of the more useful places are to be found nearby. The beaches can be rather rubbish-strewn but those attached to hotels are clean and pleasant. There are plenty of other attractions from bird-watching to archeology all within easy reach by car. Restaurant food prices for all but very basic snacks are similar to UK pub prices. Supermarket prices were also similar to the UK. Petrol was considerably cheaper!

Cyprus in June

Review Submitted: July 15, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed in June 2009, very pleasant and normally peaceful location. (unfortunatley building a well in the distance, but not too much of a problem)

The house was as described, loved the roof with beautiful views. Side patio nicely shaded. Bedroom lovely and cool being downstairs, so good for sleeping at night.

Water pressure low but coped with that, found a peg to hold the water for shower. Natives freindly, Chap in local shop extremely helpul for where to eat out etc.

Lovely walks in the area, shame for me not to do more because of my health.

A very peaceful away from it all place to stay, but obviously you need a car

Best village in North Cyprus

Richard&Lucy Oxford
Review Submitted: July 4, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This cottage is over a hundred years, designed to keep you cool in the summer without air con - bags of character and fantastic views of the coast. Located about 10 mins from the main coast road (20 to Kyrenia). No pools allowed in the village, so the sea is the best option (15 mins by the Mercure Hotel). There is a pool in St Hillarion village hotel, but it was closed (end of June). Nearest otherwise at the Hideaway Club (5 mins by car £4 a swim). Local restaurants, pub etc random on opening hours but plenty of places to eat on the coast road (try the Veranda Restaurant overlooking the sea) or Kyrenia. Recommend you take a cotton double sheet to keep comfortable in bed. Overall, cottage adequately furnished, lovely location, peaceful once you get used to the noise of the insects and frogs. People in the area very friendly with lots to see. Will go back to N Cyprus and probably this village!
