A peek inside the Peace House reveals...:
Imposing old Cypriot doors opening from the village street into a cool flag-stoned entrance hall where 20-inch thick stone walls stretch 32 feet up into an open gallery with a traditional beamed ceiling. All bedrooms are en-suite with four-poster beds. Both master bedrooms feature an original stone arch which curves across the ceiling.
Downstairs ...:
Next to the entrance hall is the dining area where a beautiful old table, fashioned out of English oak, and eight carved oak chairs provide a splendid setting for sumptuous feasts. Meals are prepared in the adjacent fully-fitted kitchen, complete with 'fridge-freezer and cooker (electric and gas). The view through the kitchen windows into the garden with its fruit trees, palms, jacaranda, jasmine, lavender and bougainvillea shrubs is tempting enough to start cooking - even though it's holiday time!
And upstairs...:
Old marble steps lead up to the gallery which opens out on to the upstairs walk-round balcony. Here is the second master bedroom and, as with the other upstairs bedroom, you can walk out on to the balcony for wonderful views of the sea and mountains. A corridor connects the gallery to the comfortable, light and airy lounge, which features an old Cypriot bread oven. Beautiful old Cypriot doors open on to the sun terrace with more breath-taking views of the mountains behind and the sea in front where, on a clear day, you can see the coast of Turkey.
Flights can be made to and from the south (Larnaca or Paphos) and, despite what you may read on the Internet or be told, you can hire a car in the south and drive to the north if you prefer; there is no curfew or unusual border restrictions and you can come from north to south without any worries. What is required is separate car insurance for the north which costs 15 pounds sterling for three days or thirty pounds sterling for one month.
