Going Out:
In the villa there is a book containing many recommendations for eating and other evening activities. Alo guests are encouraged to leave their own feedback on places they may have discovered.
There are plenty of fantastic restaurants in the local vicinty. Many of these have spectacular views of the mountains and coast line. As well as the traditional Cypriot or Turkish cuisine, there are many specialist fish restaurants, up market bistros serving European cuisine and Indian and Chinese.
There are a number of casinos in the area for those who fancy a flutter. Most of these are free to enter with snacks and drinks on the house.
The villa is relatively close to the famous 'Turtle Beach' where, at the right time of year, you can experience a very moving scene of new hatchlings making their way to the sea in controlled releases. North Cyprus has too many historical sites which are worth a visit to list here, but many are detailed in our brochure which is available on request.
The Kyrenia Mountain Range:
The Kyrenia mountain range is a long, narrow chain of mountains that runs approximately 160 km (100 mi) along the north coast of Cyprus. The mountains are primarily limestone, with some marble. The highest mountain, Kyparissovouno, is 1024 m (3360ft) in elevation. The western half of the range is also known as the Pentadactylos mountains. The Turkish name for these mountains is Besparmak (five fingers, the same meaning as the Greek name). These mountains are a series of sedimentary formations from the Permian to the Middle Miocene pushed up by a collision of the African and Eurasian plates. Though only half the height of the Troodos mountains, the Kyrenia mountains are very rugged and rise abruptly from the Mesaoria plain making them very spectacular. The placement of the mountains near the sea made them desirable locations for watch towers and castles overlooking the north Cyprus coast as well as the central plain. These castles generally date from the 10th through the 15th centuries.
Hiking / Moutain Biking:
Hiking tours for people of all ages and physical disposition are organized by a number of centers in the Kyrenia area generally conducted in the Kyrenia mountain range. One particular tour party, organized by 'Association of Mountaineering', meets every Sunday between October and the end of April, and twice a month (again on Sundays) between the summer months from May to the end of September. During the winter, the tour programme is published at the beginning of every month explaining the route and where to meet etc. All walks, as well as being good exercise, endeavour to show walkers interesting natural and historical features. The tours generally start at 7.30 am and finish between 10 and 11 am.
The fire breaks which are cleared into the mountain side during the spring and summer are ideal for exciting downhill mountain bike action. There are also plenty of more gentle off road slopes at the edge of the range.
