St Ives: artists' colony, fishing village, holiday haunt. Porthmeor Beach, famous for surfing, is surrounded by National Trust headlands and coastal cliff walks. The view from the apartment: rock pools, a fine sandy beach and the Atlantic - calm one day, full of great white caps the next. The fantastic light explains why Porthmeor has been painted by so many famous artists: Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Bernard Leach, Patrick Heron. The sea view from the living room is breathtaking. Our apartment is a double height glass fronted studio with a sunny double bedroom and dining terrace upstairs. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen with sea view, a bathroom and living/ dining room. A double sofa bed and two couches along one wall offer flexibility in sleeping arrangements (4 is a comfortable maximum.) At ground level you will have a private door to the beach, and a courtyard laundry. We think there is no better place to swim, sun and dream.

The town itself is a jumble of craft shops, restaurants, galleries, gardens, gulls, pubs and clubs including a leisure centre where you can work out overlooking the sea. The coastal path runs along National Trust land to pass coves, basking seals, farms and ancient monuments. In summer there is an outdoor theatre built into the cliffs at Porthcurno, a Cornish poetry festival and concerts in village churches. Scuba diving, deep sea fishing, tennis, windsurfing in the bay, horse riding over the moors and along a beach are all available. The St Ives School of Painting runs open classes. The Tate Museum St Ives has a thriving outreach department with workshops and working artist tutors. Local fish, caught each morning can be had from Stevens the local fishmonger for delicious lunches. Enthusiasts can book hands-on courses with the amazing Rick Stein up the coast at Padstow. It would seem that around every corner, lies a new experience!

The bathroom has a tub, power shower, vanity basin, WC. Full off-peak storage heating with powerful convectors for quick warm ups. In the courtyard there is a launderette for use of residents with washer, dryer and a door with direct access to Portmeor Beach (code for use by residents only). We have a garage directly under the building available to rent at additional cost (£35 per week).

Uses: The apartment works enormously well as an off-season bolt hole for recharging batteries or coping with a concentrated bit of work. The town is busy in school holidays but at other times is serene and extremely beautiful. Even at busy times the walk along the coastal path to Zennor clears the cobwebs and lifts the spirit. You won't have to cook as there are many good restaurants only minutes away . . . but you might be tempted by the fish shop around the corner with the morning catch on sale for lunch!

Location: St Ives is easily accessible by rail and road. Sleepers still run from London Paddington. Take them one or both ways for a weekend which can seems like a week. You can walk along the sea from the station to Piazza convinced that it's a fabulous break even if you take the Sunday sleeper or early morning Monday train back.

Contact us: We are full of suggestions gained from 20 years of our family using the flat for exam preparation, convalescence, writing, escape from the children, holidays with the children, holidays with teenagers, with grandparents. If you feel you need something bigger or seek more luxury or space we have a converted sail-loft also on Porthmeor Beach.

'We have fallen in love with St Ives and with your apartment. What a location! I opened the door on arrival and the view took my breath away. Fantastic view

We had a wonderful break in St Ives. The apartment was in a perfect location which allowed us to pop to the shops, beach, restaurants and local sights with ease. The apartment itself was spacious, clean and well resourced, and the garage was very useful (if tight!). We have already recommended it to family and friends, and would love to come back in the future.

The apartment is simply idyllic. We have been visiting for many years and as soon as we walk in and hear the sea the relaxation starts. Its great during bad weather because you can watch the chaos of the sky and sea in a storm but on a good day you can lie on a sun bed on one of the two balconies. When its windy on one it almost certainly won't be on the other. The apartment is ideally positioned within StIves and everywhere is within an easy walk. Some of the best seafood restaurants and the best fishmongers in the country. We'll be booking for next year.

Location was perfect, on the beach and also in the city.
The view was so beautiful. Apartment was very well equipped and clean. We really relaxed in St Ives. I can recommend this apartment from my heart. It was even better than we expected.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. You are correct in that is is lovely to face a surfing beach outside the window and in less than 5 minutes be at the centre of town activity at the harbour and Fore Street shops and restaurants.
