The accommodation: :
The Ancient Barn, The Old Stables and the Bee House are situated between an old farmhouse and a small working farmyard (cattle and sheep) so there may be some normal farming activity at certain times of year. Our guests have never found this to be a problem but if you do not enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of a farmyard then this is not the place for you! All three buildings are comfortable at all seasons - warm in winter, cool in summer, and provide an ideal base for touring this fascinating part of the west of England. Both Barn and Stables have VisitBritain four star ratings. We also have a Green Tourism Award.
A car is essential. We ask our guests only to smoke out of doors.
From the Old Stables guest book:
. 'What fantastic accommodation, ideally situated to explore the surrounding beautiful countryside.' 'Marvellous family accommodation furnished to the highest standard - we had a very comfortable stay.' 'We were very comfortable and loved the 'moo-cows' next door - we loved our days here.' 'A very welcoming cottage - we certainly appreciated the 'home from home' comforts and are certainly looking forward to our next visit - we need to explore Somerset more thoroughly and this makes an excellent base,' 'Thank you for an extremely clean and comfortable visit - the beds just a bit too comfortable!' 'A relaxing stay in a beautifully equipped cottage.' 'Thank goodness for the internet - it is quite possible we would not have discovered such a fantastic place without it. We have had a terrific week here and look forward to visiting again soon.' 'We wanted a quiet cottage in Somerset. We were delighted to get The Old Stables - a very relaxing atmosphere. We have really enjoyed our stay.'
Throughout the year... :
Somerset has lots to offer: historic sites such as Glastonbury Tor and Cadbury Camp (also known as Camelot - a hill fort made famous by King Arthur), ruined Castles and Abbeys, delightful country pubs offering delicious meals made from local produce, National Trust houses and famous gardens. For those who enjoy shopping there are numerous antique and craft shops in the area and Clarks Shopping Village is a short drive away at Street. This is a very special place in an area of England that as yet has hardly been touched by tourism. The countryside is pretty, the pace of life is gentle and the local people are friendly and helpful. Many of our guests return again and again to this lovely part of the world.
