Winter weekend break

Review Submitted: December 2, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
visited Catkin lodge on last weekend in November 08. The waather was beautiful, cold and crisp but very sunny. catkin lodge is a little home from home, with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing weekend. I went with my son aged 8 and a friend who took his daughter aged 11. The kids had a great time and loved the pool. we sampled the delights of the Waters Edge Restaurant on site on our first night and whilst the place was very quiet the service and food were excellent and not nearly as expensive as I expected. On saturday we decided to cook and had a trip to Tesco, which is only 10 mins away. All the lodge kitchen facilities were excellent.
thanks to Betty and Alf who greeted us and sprung into action when we ran out of gas on Saturday. I will be recommending this lodge to my friends and hope to come back in 2009 with my wife.
PS this is a great lodge for those wishing to use the pool and gym as it's only just aroud the corner!!
Owner's Response: Gas hick up sorted now. It was a faulty change over valve has now been replaced.

We rented a three bedroom lodge with had every home comfort and lots of space. The location was fantastic for children with a lake and little beach and a swimming pool. The on-site restaurant provided take away food at a reasonable price and ment meals could be relaxed and eaten on our own decking overlooking the lake. I would highly recommend this holiday to families or couples.

South Lakeland Leisure Village- Catkin Lodge

Guernsey Donkey Guernsey
Review Submitted: August 5, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
A very spacious, clean and attractive lodge with a bright and comfortable lounge / kitchen /dining area. Friendly welcome guaranteed from Betty and Alf. Provision of basic supplies like tea, coffee, cooking oil, washing up liquid, cling film, toilet roll etc was a nice touch.

The living area leads on to a nice terrace area with table and chairs for al fresco dining. Also safe for kids to play as the only access is from the living area.

The gym and pool complex were nice and although we didn't eat there we understand that the restaurant service can be slow. There was also a small football pitch tucked away behind bushes at the top of the site above gym complex.

The overall site is quite a bit bigger than expected with a large number of similar lodges surrounding a reasonably sized lake. The lodges are bordered by very well maintained lawns and access roads. Each lodge seemed to be excellently maintained most had lots of beautiful pots and hanging baskets full of flowers and not a dead head to be seen! Atmosphere was very calm.

Try eating out at Longlands hotel /bar for very good mid-price food. Children welcome but maybe not rowdy ones! Turn right immediately at site entrance and follow road about half a mile.

Also The George near Bolton le Sands was great and child friendly. Lovely beer garden.Steak and ale pie looked great! Go about 2 miles out of town after Tesco.

Info provided in lodge on local restuarants & takeaways. Trungs chinese closed Mondays. The recommended chippy was a bit tricky to find- up a steep side road on left off main road before Spar garage.Seemed to close quite early though.

If local shops closed there is the Spar garage shop or Morecombe is only about a 15 minute drive for more restaurants or a late opening Tesco Express.

Loads of attractions to see nearby. Blackpool about a 40 min drive to south west to take kids to the Pleasure Beach. Windermere about 30 mins north and then all other lakes. Good shopping area next to Bolton Reebok Stadium exit on M6. Yorkshire dales only about 30 mins to east. Recommend Ingleborough Cave at Clapham (very picturesque) - but be aware of the 1.25 mile uphill (beautiful) walk to get there.

There are brochures and books on nearby attractions in the lodge. Also, detailed area maps provided of Lake District and Yorkshire Dales were very useful.

All in all a very enjoyable visit and could easily have done more than a week. Many thanks to Maureen, Ian, Betty and Alf.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your review We just love it when visitors enjoy their visit it makes us try harder
Fish & Chip shop changed hands recently and closes about 6.30 now. One to try Kings Arms Burton in Kendal 2miles Fish & Chip evening Fridays (only have a starter if you are really hungry.)
