Recently used for the filming of ‘Miss Potter’, a film about Beatrix Potter starring Renee Zellweger, Low Millgillhead offers three self catering Georgian houses within two acres of gardens in the small village of Lamplugh. The main house, Millgillhead, offers stylish accommodation for up to ten people. Croft House is a beautiful barn conversion, with accommodation for twelve. Rose Cottage sleeps four. Each house has its own garden and have been refurbished to high standards boasting the latest in modern convenience while maintaining the intimate features of the original features of the property. Within easy access of Lowswater (4 miles) and Ennerdale (4 miles) Low Millgillhead benefits from an idyllic location in the heart of the North Western lakes. There are plenty of walks from the village of Lamplugh making it an ideal location for groups or families who enjoy outdoor life.

A spacious hallway leads to two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, a bunk bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs are two further bedrooms plus a shower room. All the bedrooms have their own sink and there is a third toilet. The kitchen is upstairs and is fully furnished with a large range cooker, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. Upstairs the sitting room is large with a dining area to seat twelve in style. There are a variety of board games for entertainment, as well as a wide screen TV with DVD. The garden is large with a big chestnut tree to provide some shade in the summer and conkers in the Autumn. There is also a secret garden over one of the bridges across the stream. There are many small nooks and crannies and plenty of outdoor furniture to help you enjoy the beauty of it all. The house is heated by gas central heating. Pets are welcome.

Lamplugh is the perfect starting place to explore the Lake District. There are a variety of walks right from the front door, or Loweswater Lake is just four miles away, with Buttermere and Crummock just a mile or two beyond. In the opposite direction is Ennerdale Lake with its forest walks and mountain biking trails. Seven miles away is Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth. William Wordsworth's home is worth a visit, as is Jennings Brewery and Museum. There are plenty of antique shops and cafes, including Merienda which holds the occasional Jazz evening. There are a variety of pubs and smaller shops (butchers, bakers etc) as well as a Sainsburys.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We take full week bookings (Friday to Friday) throughout the year. Weekend bookings are £620 - £650 (three nights) in the off-peak season (end Oct to Easter).
  • We will hold provisional telephone bookings for a few days and confirm bookings on receipt of a deposit (as shown on the tariff sheet). Payment in full is to be made six weeks prior to arrival by cheque made payable to Croft House (and sent to Sally Fielding at Rivendell, Bassenthwaite, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4QP). We also require a security deposit of £100 which will be returned to you after your holiday.
