The Property:
Old Bridge was built in 1580 using the local honey-coloured Hamstone. The house has a large family kitchen with a four-oven Aga, gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher etc, two back kitchens, two comfortable sitting rooms and two dining rooms. On the first floor there are two double rooms (one master, and one with extra single bed), a family room with three single beds and another single bedroom, bathroom and shower room, and on the top floor there is another single room, a smaller double room and shower room. There is also a cot, and, because we know that family groupings don't always fit the bedroom lay-out, there is a folding bed for additional flexibility. The south facing patio is furnished for those lazy evening barbeques while watching the energetic ones on the tennis court. The pool is solar heated and completely private. There is also a croquet lawn and wooded area with a stream, all within the garden. A perfect place for a family holiday. Please see our guests' comments!
The Area:
South Somerset is a rural retreat, rich in local tradition and history, yet close to many popular and well known places that offer interest, recreation and leisure to those who wish to explore. We are a mile from the pretty village of South Petherton, close to the main London-Exeter A303, and surrounded by our own farmland. The cities of Bristol, Bath and Exeter are an hour away by car, and the south coast (Lyme Regis, Weymouth) can be reached in 40 minutes. Other places of interest include the Mendips with the Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole caves, Wells and Glastonbury, Exmoor, Cricket St Thomas, Sherborne and Hardy country, and many lovely local churches and National Trust Properties.
