Further details for this holiday chateau / country house rental in Sedgemoor, United Kingdom

Caring for the Community: Cossington Park does not make profits. All proceeds are used for maintaining the estate.

Cossington Park as been provided as a venue without charge for functions and garden parties by Cossington School and Bridgwater YMCA. Events have been held in support of national charities.

We have an ongoing association with the registered charity I CAN, which was founded by the great grandfather of Cossington Park's present owner.

We have a strong association with our local church, which contains memorials to our ancestors and where some family members are buried.

We buy produce, goods and services from local suppliers.

We have purchased the work of Emma Linham, artist and mother in Dunster, and local potters.

Caring for the Environment: Like most of the western world, we do not do enough for the environment, but are gradually taking steps to 'do our bit'.

* Over the past five years, we have spent far more on restoring and maintaining the gardens at Cossington Park than is justified on purely commercial terms;

* We nurture some special trees; * We keep a wild garden at the end of our paddock, which is loved by butterflies;

* Our Paddock has lots of rare cowslips

* We have three ponds that are abundantly supplied with newts, including the endangered great crested newt

For Garden Lovers: Cossington Park's own gardens have some interesting features:

• An old and extremely rare species of Chinese Elm, brought here by my ancestors from China, believed to be the only one of its type and age in the UK (the UK's most eminent tree experts have been unable to match it exactly to any known species)

• A wide variety of old English apples trees

• Several ponds with great crested newts

• Rare cowslips

• A fine clump of lime trees

In addition there are many gardens open to the public within a day's visit from Cossington Park.

Golf:

Excellent links course at Burnham and Berrow. Local club is Enmore Golf Club which welcomes visitors and provides an excellant parkland course. Details on other clubs in the area available on request.

Other Activities:

Carriage driving; shooting; balloon rides and lots more

Review Submitted: December 6, 2007 Date of Stay: December 2007
“A lovely warm and welcoming family home. Great for our family weekend. Cossington Park feels like a family home, allowing us all to relax. The dogs settled and enjoyed each other’s company too!” (Peter & Elaine Laverick, November 2006)

“We have just had an amazing weekend – 3 generations of the Stecklar family. The perfect venue for a family reunion. We have eaten more in the space of 3 days than ever before! Drunk more too! Also enjoyed the beautiful country side. Particularly recommend a trip up Glastonbury Tor. Above all we have relaxed, walked dogs, read, played games, and more. Many thanks for enabling us to have such a warm house as a base.” (The Hankers, the Lavericks, the Stecklars, November 2006)

“It was Fabulous, Fabulous, we loved every moment of our time here. Particularly nice surprises were: the amazing generosity of the welcome basket; all the beauty of the land and home; the amazing feeling of the house and the detail and love in everything. The team were wonderful, beyond helpful. We were so cared for. We loved everyone.”

Review Submitted: September 17, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
“What can I say , it was perfect. Just a fantastic set up you have there. The rooms are just right and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Only praise from everyone who was with us at the weekend. It really made the christening a great event to remember and we didn’t want to leave. Hope one day we will come back and visit, our two boys Joseph (3yrs) and Samuel (1yr) just loved it. Can’t thank you enough.”

The Warren Family

Review Submitted: September 17, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
“Here we are, four generations, celebrating our mother’s 60th birthday in these wonderful surroundings. One of the youngest, 5-year old Lily, said it all: ‘It’s so lovely Granny, it makes me want to cry!’ (And her Granny did!!) None of the children want to leave and neither do we. Thank you to Kate for such a fantastic meal and to the gardeners for their delicious produce. A big thank you to all the staff who have made us feel so welcome. We are leaving with many happy memories and will return!”
