Porth Enys and the accommodation:- : 'Porth Enys' was built in the 1830's, is a Grade II listed building, and is very Cornish in character. It has been substantially modernised but still retains many original features. It has a very friendly and peaceful atmosphere which is much appreciated by our guests. It is very spacious, airy, and has a lounge suite you can sink into! The ground floor accommodation comprises a large lounge with widescreen TV, DVD recorder, video and hi-fi, a separate dining room, and fully equiped kitchen. Upstairs there are five bedrooms(four with their own TV) - two double bedded rooms, one single, one twin bedded room, and a childrens room with two bunk beds at floor level. All the rooms are carpeted with the exception of the kitchen, and there is central heating throughout. There is a bathroom with a bath and electric shower over, and there is a second separate toilet.
Exterior and location:- : Porth Enys is situated on a raised pedestrian terrace some 10 feet above the main road into St. Ives. Effectively, it is built into the side of a hill, the car parking area providing views over the town and bay as it is well above the roof of the house. Whilst very attractive, it is very difficult to photograph to do justice to the position. There is parking for up to three cars, and a small, south facing, and sloping garden. In high summer the courtyard immediately behind the house is a sun trap for much of the day. A patio table and seating for four is provided.
Access to the town takes only a few seconds and, whilst not flat, no serious hill-climbing is involved.
St. Ives:- : Porth Enys is central for all St. Ives' facilities. There are many art galleries, including Tate St. Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum. There are many excellent restaurants, shops, and pubs all within easy walking distance. The harbour and all St Ives marvellous beaches are within easy reach, including Porthminster and Porthgwidden family beaches and the famous Porthmeor surfing beach. St Ives swimming pool and fitness centre are a short walk away. St Ives is also a splendid centre for walkers, artists and anglers, and base from which to explore the magnificent Cornish countryside. Land's End, The Lizard and its special coves, Flambards, Newquay and its indoor water-world are all easily reached. Alternatively, park your car, relax and let the world go by. Why not visit the St. Ives September arts and music festival or enjoy St. Ives' special Christmas / New Year.
