The village of Porthallow is situated on the South East side of the Lizard Peninsula close to St Anthony and the beautiful Helford River. Historically Porthallow developed as a Cornish fishing village; however over the years farming & quarrying have also become an important part of local life.
There is a fine old pub, 'The Five Pilchards', no doubt named after that species which was so abundant around these shores, a local shop & marine engineers. There is also a bus service but a car is recommended to get around. Porthallow itself is small & unspoilt. All visitors can enjoy safe swimming, sunbathing, fishing & boating. There are some excellent walks around Porthallow. The cliff walk up to Nare Point & then around to the peaceful Gillan Creek & St. Anthony is well worth the effort as it gives wonderful views out across the bay. On a fine day the lighthouse at St. Anthony Head, the Roseland and the imposing headland of Dodman Point may also be clearly seen.
