Photos and Description of this Porthallow holiday cottage 2 Bedrooms, 1 double bed & 1 twin room, sleeps 4

Rose Glen Cottage is a quaint 300 year old traditional Cornish Fisherman’s Cottage with exposed beams, low ceilings & inglenook fireplace with cast iron fire. Situated in a secluded position approximately 100 yards from the beach with a large private garden Rose Glen is an ideal location for those wanting to relax & get away from it all. The accommodation consists of a well equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting/ dining room, sun terrace, bathroom, shower & luxury under floor heating. The Cottage has main bedroom with double bed, Second bedroom with twin single divan beds and child cot if required. Porthallow is a small village with nice pub & small shop. Once a fishing village, Porthallow is still home to smaller fishing boats that are winched up the shelving beach as there is no harbour to give protection from occasional strong easterly winds. There are some excellent walks around Porthallow giving wonderful views out across Falmouth bay & beyond.

The village of Porthallow is situated on the South East side of the Lizard Peninsula close to St Anthony and the beautiful Helford River. Historically Porthallow developed as a Cornish fishing village; however over the years farming & quarrying have also become an important part of local life. There is a fine old pub, 'The Five Pilchards', no doubt named after that species which was so abundant around these shores, a local shop & marine engineers. There is also a bus service but a car is recommended to get around. Porthallow itself is small & unspoilt. All visitors can enjoy safe swimming, sunbathing, fishing & boating. There are some excellent walks around Porthallow. The cliff walk up to Nare Point & then around to the peaceful Gillan Creek & St. Anthony is well worth the effort as it gives wonderful views out across the bay. On a fine day the lighthouse at St. Anthony Head, the Roseland and the imposing headland of Dodman Point may also be clearly seen.

Perfect

Review Submitted: February 25, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
We had a fantastic week in this cottage. It is full of character with a perfect sunny patio and large garden for the children and dog where we enjoyed our evening meal and drinks each day.
Underfloor heating in the bathroom was a luxury.
You can stroll to the village beach, enjoy exploring the coastal path and there are fabulous beaches a car ride away.
The beach cafe is excellent for basic essentials and fresh bread/fruit/veg and the village is quiet and romantically evocative of a bygone age.
We loved it.

Review of Rose Glen Cottage.

We had a delightful time at the cottage which was well maintained, equiped and kept to high standards. The owner was very helpful and friendly. I would happily recommend the cottage to other people, including a small family. The local walks were attractive and the area very peaceful.

Sadly the shop and post office in the village closed recently, but the good pub made up for it. We found that we always had to travel from the village to visit any attractions and to buy any groceries.

We stayed at the cottage in early May 2008.
