The Perfect Beach House

We took our family of 4 children to Mermaid's Purse for October half term 2008 and completely fell for this quirky little beach house. Its location is the best thing - it is literally on the beach. You could simply spend all day looking out of the window, or you can see what conditions are like before venturing out. Chilly surfers can be out of the waves and into a hot shower in moments and the location makes a quick swim or surf possible, rather than having to set up camp on the beach. It has every modern convenience you need, and is furnished in a comfortable, homely way without being too smart. The house was well cleaned and the owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. It really does have the feel of a cheerful family house. We had the most wonderful week here and despite some atrocious weather - hail storms and high winds - the house was always warm and welcoming. One of the best things is walking on the deserted beach in the mornings or as the sun is going down. For families or people who want a comfortable base for an active holiday, this is unbeatable.

Ideal for Surfers - nothing else

We stayed here and was looking for idylic location where we could kick back and relax in a nice warm cosy home from home. Unfortunately, we did not get this from here. Storage Heaters in winter not good! It cost us extra to keep warm and dry our clothes as they got damp in the wardrobes. The owners did offer a slight reduction in the extra cost, but was very disappointed to be paying any extra at all. Please bear this in mind when booking. The kitchen facilities were dated and the tumble dryer (used to try and dry our damp clothes) door kept falling off. The beds were comfy but in cold bedrooms! We even came away a day earlier which made no difference to the extra electricity cost we incurred. We will not recommend to anyone other than surfers. We did not enjoy this holiday at all.
Owner's Response: We are hugely disappointed to get such negative comments from this one couple. All the other entries in the Visitors Book in the house are ecstatically enthusiastic about both the location, sunsets and views and also the furnishings and contents, backed up by the fact that a large number of the guests return several times a year, one couple even holidayed in the house for a total of 6 weeks last year !

We endeavour to fix any faulty machines immediately, the spare part for the drier door was ordered as soon as the problem became aparent and was duly fitted when it arrived, and in the meantime the drier was actually usable.

We include basic electricity usage as part of the rent, and if guests use more than the daily allocated amount they are charged, at cost, for the additional units used. The majority of guests do not exceed the daily allocation.

We hope that you will book a holiday or short break in Mermaids Purse soon and try it out for yourselves ! The Owners.
