2 completely separate, private & individual luxury cottages set in a peaceful and secluded courtyard setting at the end of a cobbled lane, both with separate, private gardens. Grange End Cottage was converted from a 19th Century barn by a local craftsman and is a charming 4 star cottage has been meticulously & sympathetically renovated with thick stone walls, large inglenook fireplace, oak beams and many original features. Bridgelands Cottage is an 18th century luxury Lakeland cottage with log fire, oaks beams and like Grange End Cottage is an ideal location from where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the Southern Lake District. Situated in the beautiful Cartmel valley with its lush green fields leafy lanes and gentle rolling hills. Cartmel village is only 2 minutes drive north and lake Windermere just a 10 minute drive. The bedrooms sleep up to 6 people. There is a romantic 4-poster bedroom, a twin bedded room overlooking the garden & fields and a 3rd bedroom with full sized bunk beds, a few children’s toys, a stair gate and full size travel cot. There is also a bed settee enabling the cottage to sleep up to 8 people. Good quality, luxurious bed linen and towels are provided for up to 6 people free of charge. The modern bathroom is equipped with bath, basin, toilet, and electric shower. Outside, to the rear, the cottage has its own lovely, private garden overlooking open fields, a patio area, garden furniture, and barbecue. The cottage also has its own garage for the sole use of guests. The kitchen has a new double oven with a halogen/ceramic hob, a new good sized fridge/freezer, automatic washing machine, dishwasher, tumble drier, microwave and everything you’d expect to have in your own luxury cottage and maybe a bit more too. Gas Central heating. Gas, electric, bed linen and towels are all include.

Our separate & individual, luxury cottages are situated in a secluded, peaceful position away from roads up a cobbled lane near the heart of the unspoilt Lakeland village of Cark-in-Cartmel. There are 2 country pubs within a 2 minute walk & Cartmel village is only 2 minutes drive north. The medieval village of Cartmel is the oldest & most picturesque village in South Lakeland and is home to 4 great village pubs, all serving good food, a Michelin starred restaurant (L'Enclume) & a fantastic, stylish brassiere & cocktail bar (Rogan & Company). The ancient village square where 2 of the pubs are located is a great place to sit and watch the world go by before heading back to the tranquillity of your cottage. Grange-Over-Sands and Lake Windermere are just 10 minutes away by car. Bowness-on-Windermere, Kendal & Ulverston are all within 30 minutes drive. Cartmel Valley is a great place to enjoy a peaceful holiday and still be within easy reach of many of the Lake Districts top attractions.

  • PLEASE NOTE THAT CHANGEOVER DAY IS NORMALLY ON A SATURDAY
    Short breaks of 3 days or more are only available when indicated above.
    We welcome well behaved pets and there is a charge of £15.00.per visit. This charge pays for extra cleaning so that non pet owners do not find any evidence that pets have been in the cottage.
  • The prices shown include electricity & gas. Coal & logs for the open fire are also included free of charge in season. Also included in the price are some sachets of coffee, tea, sugar, milk, biscuits, dishwasher tablets and lots more. There are no meters or hidden extra charges.
  • Grange End Cottage also has a double sofa bed, therefore can sleep up to 8, but we also have an almost identical cottage next door and another across the courtyard, so providing accommodation for up to 18 people in 3 completely separate and individual cottages.

All windows are double-glazed, and the cottage has full central heating with thermostatically controlled radiators.

A rural retreat......

'Grange End Cottage' is situated in a uniquely secluded position in the heart of the small unspoiled village of Cark-in-Cartmel, just 2 minutes walk to the 'Engine Inn' a traditional English local's pub. The Cartmel Valley, with its gentle and attractive landscape of lush green fields and lazy rolling hills, makes a perfect base for a holiday. Pleasantly unaffected by the influx of tourism that can crowd the more central parts of the Lake District, this historic valley offers a very wide range of local attractions, from award winning restaurants and pubs, to gentle strolls through a medieval village.

Ideally situated......

Golfers can enjoy a round at a choice of two nearby courses, there are indoor tennis courts at Ulverston, and Cark railway station is just a four minute walk away, offering many easy day trip destinations along the picturesque coastal rail route. Within 20 miles of Cark there are 32 places of interest listed by the English tourist board, including Cumbria's premier stately home, Holker Hall, within easy walking distance.

Other Activities Apart from walking, paint-ball, clay-pigeon shooting, quad-biking, off-road driving, parachuting, sky-diving, power-boating, abseiling, canoeing.

Skiing Information:

Surprisingly, we don't always get a lot of snow in the Lake District apart form the very top of the highest mountains and you wouldn't want to ski on those craggy slopes! But if there is snow, ring Kendal Ski Club on 01539.733031 and they will tell you the best places to ski.

Golf Information:

There are two golf-courses within ten minutes drive of 'Grange End' holiday cottage. The nearest is 'Grange Fell' (015395.32536), just up the road. (Turn right at the 'Pig & Whistle' pub on the outskirts of Cartmel) It's built on the side of a fell! A 3 yard putt can end with your ball 200 yards down the fell-side. Good fun if you get it right, and your mates don't ! The next nearest is Grange Golf-Course (015395.33180). It's actually flat ! Then there's Ulverston (01229.582824), about 30 minutes drive, with stunning views right over Morecambe Bay. There's a further three within 30 minutes drive North. Windermere Golf Course (015394.43123), is on the Crook Road out of Bowness. It is the premier course in the area, and also the most expensive, with a very nice club-house. But my favourite is 'Beck-side' (01539.821415) just up the road from Windermere Golf Course (Turn right at the Sun Inn). A cracking 9-holer, (go round twice for £7.00!) with beautiful greens and stupendous views. Mustn't forget 'Carus Green' (01539. 721097) near Burneside, off the Kendal Road. Another boring flat one!
