This 400-year-old self catering cottage rests among the mountains of the famous Lake District National Park. Accessed by private road, the property benefits from an idyllic location in the heart of the Western lakes. With five bedrooms, one ensuite, and two further bathrooms, the property easily sleeps ten people. Recently renovated and refurbished to a high standard, the property boasts the latest in modern convenience while maintaining the intimate features of a classic Lakeland cottage. Views of Scafell and the Esk valley greet visitors from the windows and gardens. Numerous walks invite you outdoors - whether for a leisurely stroll among the hills and tarns, a quick trip to one of the three pubs within walking distance. The Eskdale and Ravenglass miniature railway runs at the base of the hill and the many lakes and seaside are only a short drive away.

Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house! The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and for fishing. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway terminal is about a mile away and runs along the valley, its steam trains leisurely making the seven mile journey down to the sea. Although the cottage feels isolated, it is only 15 minutes walk from the Boot Inn or Brook House Inn, or half an hour from the Woolpack Inn. The village shop and post office (a 5 minute drive away), Eskdale Stores, sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We take full week bookings (Friday to Friday) from mid-March to the end of October, and weekend, midweek and full week bookings from November to mid-March. Winter weekends or midweek’s are £710 for either two or three nights, £755 for four nights, £830 for five nights, £895 for six nights (excluding Christmas, New Year and Half Term weeks).
  • We will hold provisional telephone bookings for a few days and confirm bookings on receipt of a deposit (as shown on the tariff sheet). Payment in full is to be made four weeks prior to arrival by cheque made payable to 'M Lawrence' (and sent to Sally Fielding at Rivendell, Bassenthwaite, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4QP). We also require a security deposit of £100 which will be returned to you after your holiday.
  • All fuel, power, and bed linen (including duvets and extra blankets) are included in the cost - with central heating throughout.

Golf: Seascale Golf Course is a twenty minute drive away. Half an hour drive away is St Bees golf course. Within an hours drive are Cockermouth and Threlkeld (Keswick) Golf Courses. Penrith golf course is an hour and a half away and the famous course at Silloth is also an hour and a half.
