Barnacle Cottage is a mid terraced stone cottage which dates back to 1700 but it has been sympathetically modernised and kitted out with all the comforts of home. It has two bedrooms one with double bed and one with two single beds and there is a bed sofa downstairs. It features oak beams and exposed stone walls in the living room and two garden areas separated by a garden room which is ideal for summer dining.

The cottage is in the centre of the popular fishing village of Flookburgh which lies just off the shores of Morecambe Bay famous for its potted shrimps. It is close to many places of interest such as Holker Hall and Cartmel Priory and is about 40 minutes drive from Windermere and Coniston, thus offering the best of Lakeland and coastal scenery with a stretch of the Cumbrian Coastal path being accessible from the front door.

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We did a lot of sightseeing round about. Plenty of room for the 5 of us. The leaflets in the cottage were used by us for days out and the sticky toffee pudding factory round the corner was well used. The crown inn across the road did nice dinners. We liked Holker Hall and car museum. The garden centre beside the station also did lovely food and coffees. Would definately stay at the cottage if we were down that way again and would tell friends about it too. Used Grizedale for biking and walking.

We had a lovely stay at Barnacle Cottage. It is a lovely old property with lots of character. It is well equiped with everything you could need and more. Lovely garden and the garden room was well used for our meals. Our daughter who is 6 loved it here, especially the large dog sitting at the fireplace, she named it bobby. The cottage is on the main street with a butchers across the road, a chip shop about 500 yds away and 2 pubs aswell, what more could you want. We will definately be back again and maybe the great british weather will be better next time.

Fantastic cottage, perfect location.Hidden Lakes

We visited Flookburgh to coincide with Cartmel races weekend at May Bank holiday( a long held ambition).

This was the perfect place only 5 minutes driving time from Cartmel and in an unspoilt vilage that is not at all touristy.The village is perfect with several pubs and places to eat and within walking distance of the station at neighbouring Cark if you don't want to use the car.
Grange over sands is only 10 minutes by car or train and is also delightful with lots to do as well as having one of the best bakers in the country for foodies and vegetarians.

The cottage is beautiful and has absolutly everything. If you can think of a piece of equipment which isn,t in the cottage then I will give you a prize(after eating my hat).
Janet the owner has provided everything with loads of useful information and guides to the area.
The cottage has two good size bedrooms which are very comfortable with lovely views to the coast from the back room.The bathroom is upstairs which includes a bath and shower.Downstairs is a large living room with TV and freeview,as well as CD and radio and a very well equiped kitchen.Through the enclosed back yard there is a further area in a conservatory,with a further toilet attached.We would sit and have breakfast out here and it is very relaxing.Through the conservatory is another garden area which is very pretty and where you can sit if the weather is good.
We were blessed with glorious weather and regulary sat out.
You are 10 mins drive from Lakeside at the bottom of Windermere and within 30 mins of anywhere in south lakeland.
To my mind it is ideal, in that you are not in the tourist traps with high prices,but near enough to get anywhere you want.You could though happily just stay around the village and walk and do the train.Also the butcher opposite is a foodie heaven and like going back 20/30 years with fantastic local meat and homemade pies and breads.

Yes you guessed it we will be going back.

But just keep this between you and me to make sure it doesn't get spoilt.

Excellent character cottage

Lovely cottage in nice village. The photographs don't do it justice. Cosy, but comfortable for 4 adults. Small garden with garden room, excellent for relaxing and dining. Very good butcher, fish and chip shop, and village store within 100 yards. 2 Pubs with good food in Cark, about 10 mins easy walk away. 5 minutes walk to railway station with regular connections to Lancaster.
Nice cafe in garden centre opposite railway station.
Good local walks, plus easy drive to Coniston and Windermere.
Easy 3 mile walk to Cartmel, which is a lovely historic village. My mother and aunt, both in their 70s, really enjoyed the walk, and the village.
Plenty of useful local information provided by the owner.
All in all an excellent cottage for the price.
