Further details for this holiday cottage rental in East Prawle, United Kingdom

Location: The row of terraced cottages was built in 1902 for the coastguard staff who manned the station at Prawle Point. Volunteers, who have displays at the station of its history and current use, now man the station. The village of East Prawle is about two miles away, up a winding single-track road. East Prawle has two pubs and a seasonal shop. The nearest market town is Kingsbridge, about 25 minutes by car. To confirm the booking, we need a cheque for one third of the total, the balance is payable 6 weeks before the start of the holiday.

Beaches/Walks: The cottage is ideally situated for walks along the cliff-top towards Salcombe or Start. There are sandy beaches, suitable for swimming, in both directions and accessible from the coast path so it is easy to leave the car behind and explore the area using footpaths. Lots of information about the South Hams is provided.

Sailing/Golf: The Salcombe estuary can either be reached by the coastal path in about an hour or by car, to the ferry at East Portlemouth, in about 15 minutes. The estuary has good sailing at high tide up to Kingsbridge or via the creeks to South Pool or Frogmore. Golf is available at Dartmouth, Thurlestone and Bigbury, all 18-hole courses within easy driving distance from the cottage.

Other Activities: bird watching

Beautiful cottage, beautiful view

We had a wonderful time for the whole of our stay. The weather was fantastic - except for Wednesday when there was thunder and lightning just as we were returning from Salcombe on the ferry! That was our only trip out by car. The rest of the time we just walked and were in heaven. We even went in for a swim at Lannacombe on our way home.

Our friends visited from Greenwich for one night and they said it was definitely worth coming all that way - even for such a short time.

This is a wonderful cottage. Really beautiful, comfortable and well-equipped - and such a wonderful view. The owners were very helpful. We would very much like to return one day.

Good location - poor cottage!

Review Submitted: May 31, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We stayed at the cottage for a week period over the last week of May 2009, and while I can recommend the East Prawle area I cannot recommend this cottage. The cottage was not very clean when we arrived and is really dated. Most of the decoration is very run down and the cottage really shows it age, for example most of the kitchen applicances are at least 20 years old and are effective as their age! The customer service provided by the owner was not that good and lacking in clear directions of how to use different aspects of cottage (there was no directions for accessing the hot water!!). Luckily the weather was ok for the week as the cottage did not have much in the way of additional entertainment (no TV, stereo does not work, no DVD etc). We did have a good holiday in spite of this cottage.

happy holidays!

after several years spending our summer holidays on the south hams coast, this was the happiest holiday!
the cottage is wonderful ! !
we enjoyed every single moment sitting at the big table in the dining room with the fantastic view ...
or having breakfast in the garden outside...
or ...
the area is full of attractions - if you look a little bit closer!
and if you come down the road from east prawle, have a break at the so called 'contemplation gate' overlooking the sea and coast and you understand, why this simple gate has got his name...
