West Buckland is a picturesque hamlet 1/2 mile from Bantham. A quiet and peaceful location yet ideally situated for access to all local beaches, coast and inland walks and other amenities such as 9 and 18 hole golf courses at Thurlestone (1.5 miles). Bantham beach (1 mile) lies at the mouth of the winding River Avon and is the best surfing beach in the area but is also great for children with soft sand, sand dunes and rock pools. It overlooks the famous Burgh Island with its art deco hotel which is accessible from Bigbury on foot at low tide and by sea tractor at high tide. It is 5 miles from the market town of Kingsbridge, 8 miles from Salcombe, the sailing centre and Dartmoor, Plymouth and other visitor attractions are easily accessable. There are local convenience stores and pubs serving food at Bantham and Thurlestone (nearest Sloop Inn 1/2 mile). There are more shops and restaurants in Kingsbridge and Salcombe which also offer a leisure centre and boat trips.
