West Down is a lovely tranquil village nestled in beautiful North Devon countryside with easy access (five to ten mins) to some of the UK's best beaches at Woolacombe Bay, Croyde and Saunton Sands. This stunning stretch of coastline is substantially owned by the National Trust and offers surfing, kite surfing, paragliding and body boarding for the energetic, as well as spectacular cliff-top walks, wildlife, and scenery for nature lovers. Exmoor is within easy reach, as are the historic coastal villages of Clovelly and Lynton and the Broomhill Sculpture Gardens. The Tarka Trail and numerous mountain bike routes in the area provide plenty of challenges to the keen and the more occasional cyclist. Barnstaple, Braunton, and Ilfracombe offer a good range of shops and amenities, and the island of Lundy, now a conservation area famed for its biodiversity can be reached from Ilfracombe. The village benefits from a friendly local shop/post office and an excellent pub/restaurant.
