Jacketts is an old cob farmhouse in a fantastic location on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Otterton. Now divided into two cottages Jacketts 2 makes a deceptively spacious and well appointed home away from home. It has a delightful Conservatory, ideal for those lazy breakfasts while the combined sitting/dinning has an Inglenook with modern gas log burner to warm any chilly nights. Upstairs the double bedroom has a lovely antique solid oak bed originally from Fineshade Abby and a modern semi ensuite shower room. The twin bedroom has its own charm with more antique furniture. For a candle lit bath or the practicality of bathing the children the bonus of a downstairs bathroom gives that added flexibility. The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the East Devon coast with fantastic local walks along the cliffs and nearby river while for the children there is everything from sandy beaches to adventure parks. This is picture postcard country and the ideal holiday home!

Otterton is a picture postcard pretty Devon village with a seasonal stream running through its heart with many 17th cob and thatch cottages & farmhouses. It lies 2 miles from the sea between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the east bank of the River Otter. The closest beaches are pebbly, ideal for evening BBQs but at Exmouth 8 miles away there is a long sandy beach ideal for children or even kite surfers! The area is within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with wonderfully varied walks - it's truly England at its best. Dartmoor is not far away for a more remote feel, while Exeter is only a 20min drive for everything a Historical Cathedral city has to offer. The Eden project is an accessible day trip but you'll also need a day for the children to go to Crealy Adventure park. There is no shortage of things to do in this area - castles like Powderham to visit, donkeys to ride, fossils to collect, plus many botanical gardens & National Trust properties like Killerton!

Eating out: The nearest place to eat out is just a few hundred yards away at Otterton Mill. This a working mill where you can see the grain being milled before buying the freshly baked bread or other local delights. The mill has an excellent licenced restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea, as well as a gallery and gift shop where the hidden talent of some of our local artists can be seen. The local pub is also very good but in the next village of East Budleigh there are two excellent pubs for food. In nearby Sidmouth there are a variety of modern wine bars, great restaurants and several old traditional pubs to choose from. Tearooms for the essential 'Devon cream tea' are too numerous to mention and in Budleigh Salterton you can find some of the best Ice cream in Devon.

A home from home in a beautiful part of Devon.

Jacketts was a surprise package for us, we booked fairly late & needed something that was a good deal but in the right location. We opened the door to be wowed by the space & neatness of the cottage, a real home from home & we settle right in. Otterton was an excellent base for seeing the whole area.
Owner's Response: How nice to have positive comments like this on my website. My visitors book has many other similar comments too - the spaciousness of the cottage certainly is a surprise package and I always try to aim for the highest standard with attention to detail. Its a wonderful area and many guests return for further holidays at Jacketts, which is the best recommondation I could have.

Wonderful holiday cottage...

We have been to Jacketts several times now and it is always a great place to stay for a family holiday. Spacious, clean and comfortable, there is room for kids and a great play park just around the corner, too. Otterton is a beautiful little village and is a fantastic place to stay to experience what a true Devon village should be! It makes a great base and is ideal for walking, cycling, sightseeing and going to the beach.
