Madeira Cottage was built in 1818. With its distinctive bay windows it is frequently pictured on chocolate boxes! Perfect for all ages, its current owners have used this grade II listed building as a treasured family retreat for 10 years. With its low ceilings and gently sloping floors it still retains much original period charm which is enhanced by the simple antique furniture and tasteful furnishings. However, the facilities are modern; new very good beds, heating, brand new fitted kitchen and four well appointed bathrooms. Among those who at some time have stayed there are Captain Marryat, the writer of sea stories, his friend Cruikshank the artist and, at a later date, the poet Walter de la Mare.

Madeira Cottage occupies pride of place on the beachfront just beyond the high tide wall. Yet it is only two minutes walk from the main thoroughfare, Broad Street. In the other direction, a gentle stroll along the front brings you to the harbour with its renowned Cobb, its collection of pubs, ice cream stalls, fresh fish shop and sundry other seaside traders. Lyme Regis is in the centre of magnificent Lyme Bay, the jewel of the Jurassic Coast, a world heritage site. 2006 saw the reopening of the beachfront after extensive coastal defence works: it now boasts a larger sandy beach, making Lyme the perfect venue for a safe, traditional family holiday.

'We had a fabulous time at Madeira Cottage, the settings couldn't have been
more central and you and your wife have obviously put in a lot of time and
effort in creating a great holiday home.'

We took a party of six to the cottage & had a great holiday. I cannot recommended it highly enough. It is in a fantastic location & everything you could want is provided by the owners.If you are thinking of booking this cottage do not hesitate. You will not regret it.
