Details for Pimpernel 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, 2 Bathrooms

Pimpernel is luxury personified. A converted barn in which the main room measures 35ft x 18ft and the original roof timbers tower over 21ft above your head. Within this the living area contains loads of comfortable sofas and chairs and there is a giant log burning stove to keep you comfortably warm on even the coldest evening. It is also fully centrally heated. At one end a raised dining area is paved with attractive hand-made Mexican tiles. The kitchen is fully equipped to make light of cooking meals for large numbers and includes a dishwasher and washer/dryer. The bathroom is memorable: very large and complete with a double-sized Jacuzzi and separate shower. The master bedroom has a king-sized four poster bed and en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has twin beds, and a view over the tennis court. Outside is a private lawned area and a terraced patio for outdoor eating and barbecues overlooking the tennis court and woodland backdrop.

Notes: Although not wheelchair accessible, Pimpernel has only 2 shallow steps between the living room and the raised dining area (and two steps up to the ensuite shower room), so is fine for those with restricted mobility. The living room is a massive 35ft long and over 20ft tall, with plenty of seating and the colonial style hardwood table will accommodate 6-8, making it ideal for family parties when booked with another cottage. The large log burner throws out plenty of heat (logs provided). Welcome baskets are provided containing bread, butter, jam, milk, eggs, fruit, biscuits & local organic juice. Other cottage accessibility: Campion (sleeps 4) and Harebell (sleeps 2, wheelchair accessible) are single storey and particularly suitable for the infirm. Meadowsweet has a wide, easily negotiable staircase. Celandine is entered via stone staircase which may be slippery when wet. Betony's spiral staircase is not suitable for the infirm.

Further details for this holiday barn rental in Forest of Dean, United Kingdom

On site activities: We have an all-weather tennis court (proper tennis shoes essential), croquet lawn and kids' putting green, and you can play boules on the lawn. The enclosed children's play area has swings, slides & a climbing frame. For rainy days there is an indoor games room with pool table, table football, table tennis, air hockey, darts, and some children's toys and ride-ons. There are usually sheep grazing in the orchard, and plenty of bird-watching opportunities with swallows, nuthatches, wrens, woodpeckers, chaffinches and dozens of other birds frequenting the gardens and orchard. If you're lucky you may spot one of the badgers that visit most nights - their run can be seen behind Betony. You can help collect eggs from our hens, feed the ducks and stroke the friendly rabbits and cats. A public footpath runs alongside the farm, and leads through bluebell woods to the hamlet of Gatcombe, from where the path gives lovely walks along the bank of the Severn in either direction.

Local Pubs and Restaurants: There are many good pubs and restaurants and in particular our local pub, the 'Red Hart at Awre' is one of the Forest's best and is recommended in all the leading pub guides. Good value, imaginative food is served everyday with excellent wines and beers; dogs welcome in garden, children welcome in restaurant. The Cock Inn in Blakeney, 1 mile away, also serves good food and has a large garden for children & dogs. There is a good range of take-away foods in Lydney nearby (3.5 miles), as well as Tesco, Coop and Somerfield supermarkets. There is a 24hr esco at Chepstow. Blakeney (1 mile) has an excellent open-all-hours local shop that sells just about everything.

Local Activity and attractions.: The Forest of Dean offers unrivalled opportunities for walking, cycling and mountain biking (hire bikes available nearby), horse riding, canoeing on the river Wye, Quad bike racing and paintballing. An excellent leisure complex at Lydney has a pool and gym, there are also many local Golf courses and fishing lakes. Attractions include a preserved steam railway (Thomas the Tank Engine visits 3 times a year), unique 'one man' coal mines, Clearwell Caves - Roman iron ore mines, river cruises, two vineyards, several museums and an acclaimed Bird of Prey Centre. For small children there are two excellent soft-play centres, one of which (the Dick Whittington centre at Longhope) also has go-karts and farm animals. For over 10s the 'Go Ape' high wire forest adventure is very popular.

Other Activities: Canoeing, archery, clay pigeon, paintball, llama trekking, Go Ape

'Fantastic cottages which stand out from many others we have stayed at. You feel like you are in your own home due to the attention to detail and well stocked cottages. We all look forward to returning.' Mr Noble, London.

'The cottages are so clean, confortable, exceptionally well equipped and the attention to detail really stands out. The standard of cleanliness and comfort is second to none. Most hotel and other cottage owners could learn a lot from Oatfield'.
Mr and Mrs Pealin, Birkenhead.

Pimpernel in October

M51 Surrey, UK
Review Submitted: October 30, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Pimpernel is a lovely, comfortable and very well equipped cottage in a fantastic location. We very much appreciated some of the thoughtful touches that were provided such as dog biscuits, not forgetting the biscuits for us, chocolates, eggs, jam etc. It was a pleasure to stay somewhere where all the bedding and towels smell so fresh! We were also grateful for the apples, which we really enjoyed and we made good use of some of your recommendations in the folder. In all, a great place and thank you for a fantastic and relaxing holiday.

Oatfield Farm Cottages

achd Exeter, UK
Review Submitted: May 28, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We rented both Pimpernel and Meadowsweat cottages for 3 nights for several birthday celebrations in May 2008. They connect via the attached private gardens. We were all bowled over by the visual impact of Pimpernel which lived up to expectations in every. Our grandchildren couldn't wait to have a jacuzzi bath. We were amazed to find so much provided for us - the welcome basket of local fruit, chocolate, drinks, bread, butter, jam and eggs from the very healthy looking free range chickens. But there was also salt, peper, tea, coffee and sugar. We had 12 for Sunday lunch in comfort, but the kitchen surface space was challenging. How could we complain as it was well equipped for four. Meadowsweet is smaller but the sitting room spacious and comfortable as were the beds in both cottages. Our bathroom seemed to have an electrical genie rubbing his lamp with the wrong cloth, but all was sorted out quickly and pleasantly. Although we were unable to use the tennis court, croquet and putting green due to awful Bank Holiday weather, there is a playroom. The men managed to get in a round of golf at Forest Hills which is a hilly and difficult course and when the sun shone we sat out on the perfectly positioned seat. We think it deserves 5 stars as every possible thing was provided for our comfort. When you come to the last junction turn left to Awre - we didn't!
