Indoor games room with pool table etc, tennis court, croquet lawn/fun putting green, childrens play area. In a peaceful, relaxing setting but perfect for an active or touring holiday, Oatfield is ideal for a romantic break, walking or family holiday. Pets & children welcome.

Details for Meadowsweet 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, 2 Bathrooms

The secluded entrance to this cottage is through a walkway at the far side of the courtyard leading towards the fields. Swallows often nest under the eaves here. Converted from a 17th century barn and full of character, Meadowsweet has a most attractive long living room with dining area, beamed ceiling, and coal burning stove that generates masses of heat for those cold winter evenings. The small kitchen adjoining the dining area has a microwave, electric cooker and dishwasher. At one end of the good sized dining table, French windows open onto the garden with private seating area with views of the tennis court, open fields and woods. Up the winding feature staircase the double bedroom has a delightful lace-draped four poster bed and the second bedroom, also overlooking the fields, has twin beds. Both have good size en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower over. Perfect for a romantic break or get-together with friends, or put the kids in the twin room while you enjoy the 4 poster.

Notes: Both bedrooms are accessed up the feature staircase, wide and with handrails so not difficult to climb. Other cottage accessibility: Campion (sleeps 4) and Harebell (sleeps 2, wheelchair accessible) are single storey and particularly suitable for the infirm. Pimpernel has only 2 shallow steps inside. Celandine is entered via stone staircase which may be slippery when wet. Betony's spiral staircase is not suitable for the infirm but fine for agile elderly people (the Tudor Suite being the easiest bedroom to access). Welcome baskets with bread, milk, juice, butter, jam, fruit & biscuits; and basics such as condiments, tea, coffee & sugar are provided. Prices include all bed linen, towels, heating and power, and a starter supply of logs for the fire where appropriate. All have full central heating, and all except Celandine have a log burning stove.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Forest of Dean, United Kingdom

On site activities: We have an all-weather tennis court (proper tennis shoes essential), croquet lawn and kids' putting green, and you can play boules on the lawn. The enclosed children's play area has swings, slides & a climbing frame. For rainy days there is an indoor games room with pool table, table football, table tennis, air hockey, darts, and some children's toys and ride-ons. There are usually sheep grazing in the orchard, and plenty of bird-watching opportunities with swallows, nuthatches, wrens, woodpeckers, chaffinches and dozens of other birds frequenting the gardens and orchard. If you're lucky you may spot one of the badgers that visit most nights - their run can be seen behind Betony. You can help collect eggs from our hens, feed the ducks and stroke the friendly rabbits and cats. A public footpath runs alongside the farm, and leads through bluebell woods to the hamlet of Gatcombe, from where the path gives lovely walks along the bank of the Severn in either direction.

Local Pubs and Restaurants: There are many good pubs and restaurants and in particular our local pub, the 'Red Hart at Awre' is one of the Forest's best and is recommended in all the leading pub guides. Good value, imaginative food is served everyday with excellent wines and beers; dogs welcome in garden, children welcome in restaurant. The Cock Inn in Blakeney, 1 mile away, also serves good food and has a large garden for children & dogs. There is a good range of take-away foods in Lydney nearby (3.5 miles), as well as Tesco, Coop and Somerfield supermarkets. There is a 24hr esco at Chepstow. Blakeney (1 mile) has an excellent open-all-hours local shop that sells just about everything.

Local Activity and attractions.: The Forest of Dean offers unrivalled opportunities for walking, cycling and mountain biking (hire bikes available nearby), horse riding, canoeing on the river Wye, Quad bike racing and paintballing. An excellent leisure complex at Lydney has a pool and gym, there are also many local Golf courses and fishing lakes. Attractions include a preserved steam railway (Thomas the Tank Engine visits 3 times a year), unique 'one man' coal mines, Clearwell Caves - Roman iron ore mines, river cruises, two vineyards, several museums and an acclaimed Bird of Prey Centre. For small children there are two excellent soft-play centres, one of which (the Dick Whittington centre at Longhope) also has go-karts and farm animals. For over 10s the 'Go Ape' high wire forest adventure is very popular.

Other Activities: Canoeing, archery, clay pigeon, paintball, llama trekking, Go Ape

'Fantastic cottages which stand out from many others we have stayed at. You feel like you are in your own home due to the attention to detail and well stocked cottages. We all look forward to returning.' Mr Noble, London.

'The cottages are so clean, confortable, exceptionally well equipped and the attention to detail really stands out. The standard of cleanliness and comfort is second to none. Most hotel and other cottage owners could learn a lot from Oatfield'.
Mr and Mrs Pealin, Birkenhead.

Loved the facilities - owners great! Only problem is location. It is pretty far out from anywhere - unless you are looking for a quiet place and not planning on much touring. The Red Hart Inn (pub) nearby is a great place to visit.
