Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Preston, United Kingdom

5* Gold Luxury in the Lancashire countryside.: Our small hamlet of stone luxury self catering cottages were the first 5* cottages in Lancashire, North West England. Over the years we have won many local and national awards. Four of our cottages are mobility 1 assessed and all are rigorously inspected annually by the English Tourism Council.

We are resident owners and live next to the cottages. There is always a family member on hand to give assistance or information if required.

Our cottages and location are very child friendly. We have 14 acres of fields surrounded by woodland. A big well equipped childrens play area. All weather tennis court. Baby lambs in Spring for children and adults to help bottle feed. Pet chickens, egg collecting and our own pony and stables.

The cottages all have individual gardens and outdoor seating areas. We have bbqs available to borrow.

Open all year round for short breaks and longer stays. Suitable for family gatherings, special birthdays and celebrations.

Down a quiet country lane, away from busy roads, up a long driveway in an elevated position which gives amazing views across to the coast and Lake District, even the Isle of Man on a clear day.

Ideally placed for countryside activities, walks from our door, pony trekking, fishing, coarse and fly, clay shooting, quad biking, cycling, golf, even hedge laying courses!

Local events, country shows and festivals.

Sightseeing, historical cities and shopping: We have guests coming to stay with us from all over the world. Happy to drive a couple of hours to see famous places that they have read or heard about. One family from Australia went to 'see a wall some guy built' Hadrians Wall! They went off and came back the same day, distance no object. Here in the North of England, beautiful historical towns such as York and Chester can be reached in less than a couple of hours.

The famous football grounds of Manchester United, Old Trafford and Manchester City, the Etihad Stadium, plus Liverpool are just an hour away. The city centres of both these places are worth a visit. Manchester centre is a fantastic shopping place, with Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. The architecture of the Trafford Centre nr Manchester. Loads of shops, Selfridges, plus the Orient eating area and cinemas. All under cover and free parking!

For discount shopping, the outlet areas of Cheshire Oaks, a smaller one at Freeport in Fleetwood, or even Boundary Mill at Colne are great for bargain hunters.

Golf:

Garstang town just over 5 minutes drive by car has a pay and play golf course. There are other local courses at Lancaster, Longridge and the famous Royal Lytham and Royal Birkdale are within easy travelling distance.

Other Activities:

Shooting days, both clay and pheasant. Quad biking, country craft courses. Hedge Laying.

Many thanks for your wonderful hospitality, the super welcome, the geographical 'tips' the videos and just the
lovely cottage - Colin, sarah,emma & danny
Just a little note to say a huge thankyou, our stay in the Old Stables was excellent, along with the service you provide we are already looking forward to our next visit, perhaps longer next time. Jason, Michaela, Lauren & Max
Thanks for your hospitable welcome, not to mention the eggs and the chocolate cake! We really enjoyed our stay at Pheasant Cottage and we will certainly want to stay again the next time we venture south. Caroline has been in seventh heaven, being allowed to feed the fish and hens and is now planning to keep chickens when we get home. Sandy, Lizanne, Caroline & Elaine

Picture postcard views

Review Submitted: August 16, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Piggeries - lovely warm welcome and loved the painted pigs and mice around the cottage.
Watching the variety of visitors to the bird table and garden has been wonderful. Cottage very well equipped and we could see that everything here has been put together with love and care (including the planting of the garden).
Picture postcard views and a warm welcome wherever we went.
Weather has been mixed, just wish it had been warm enough to sit out in the garden in the evening after our days out.
We have loved our week here and will definately be back.
Thank you Terry , Sue & Girls

The Times newspaper travel section comment

Review Submitted: June 19, 2010 Date of Stay: April 2010
On the 17 April 2010 the Times had an article ' Mills, towers, poolside pads - Britain's top holiday hideouts' 25 Great British holiday rentals.

Barnacre Cottages is the one for 'Best off the tourist trail"

"Cottages in Lancashire are a fraction of the price that you'd pay in the Lake District, but at Barnacre in Garstang you're only an hours drive from the tourist sights of Cumbria and Blackpool. At the end of the day, leave the crowds behind and head back to this peaceful farm, where the hens obligingly lay complimentary eggs (there are lambs too). You get a really upmarket experience at these six cottages, sleeping from 4 to 12 and all kitted out with everything from Villeroy and Boch crockery to Mark Wilkinson designer kitchens, with granite work surfaces and American style fridge freezers. The friendly owners Terry and Sue Sharples live on site and are always on hand to offer tourist advice.

Review Submitted: June 18, 2010 Date of Stay: February 2010
Thankyou Terry and Sue for the most wonderful weekend. The Piggeries is such a beautiful, homely cottage and you made us feel so very welcome. Maddie has especially enjoyed all the walks - she has had mud baths and cleaned off in the river and has run around like a lunatic. We have all thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to come and stay again. Thankyou! John, Deb & Maddie

Blue skies and glorious sunshine

Review Submitted: June 18, 2010 Date of Stay: March 2010
We've had a wonderful week in the Piggeries, what a view! loved watching the many birds that came to visit and Flynn had lots of fun on the local walks we went on. Slean End to Nicky Nook a favourite as well as his first ever visit to the seaside at Fleetwood, which on the day we went was blue skies and glorious sunshine, was just perfect. Loved the home-from-home cottage, especially the log burner and the great book collection. Thanks for the eggs as well. We've had a lovely stay! Thanks for the warm welcome from Terry, the log burner lit for our arrival on a cold winters day was much appreciated.
