Cottage rental located in a romantic secluded peaceful spot adjacent to Lakes

Squirrel cottage & Dove cottage are charming detached cottages set in the gardens of the owner's house the dell. The cottages are extremely comfortable and have been completely renovated to a very high standard. They have their own private fenced in garden and terrace. The property abounds with wildlife, squirrels, rabbits, foxes and deer to name a few plus a countless variety of birds (a bird watchers paradise!) a few yards from the cottage's is the pool house with cane furniture sun beds and 7 person jacuzzi/hot tub. The six- section purpose built pool-house telescopes into one section at the touch of a button so that in fine weather it can become open air. Squirrel cottage and Dove cottage together with the owners bungalow the dell, lie at the end of a private road in the beautiful wensum valley, officially designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, an excellent totally peaceful location from which to explore norfolk. The pool is closed November to March hot-tub available.

Old Costessey is a picturesque village about 4 miles from the Cathedral city of Norwich, the principal shopping and entertainment centre of East Anglia. Just a short twenty minute drive to the east are the beautiful Norfolk Broads where boats can be hired for day trips to explore the magical landscape of reed-lined waterways, windmills and nature reserves. About 30 minutes to the south you can stroll through enchanting Forest of Thetford teaming with wildlife and countless varieties of birds. To the east and North are some of the loveliest dune-lined sandy beaches in England. Ten minutes to the north is the historic market town of Aylsham with it's famous Steam Railway on which you can enjoy lunch whilst taking in the beautiful Norfolk countryside on route to coast or broad in the elegant style of a bygone age. At the end of a hectic day exploring Norfolk's myriad of delights, just relax by the pool or unwind in the Jacuzzi and watch the sun go down over the mystical Wensum Valley.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Please call for last minute offers. Small/medium dogs considered must be well behaved,friendly, house trained, not to be left at property alone, at an extra charge of £50 per dog per week. A non-refundable deposit of 25% will secure booking.
    We require a security/damage deposit of £200 payable as a separate cheque when paying balance of holiday. This will be returned to you within 10 days of departure. If there has been damage to the cottage or its contents, keys having to be replaced or the cottage has not been left in a reasonable condition, an appropriate refund or invoice, will be sent to you.
    We expect the cottage to be left clean and tidy. Please replace any small breakages with new items as close as possible in appearance to the original. Pool is closed from november-march hot-tub available. If guest request pool between nov/march there is an extra charge of £200

Golf:

Amazing. Just wish we could have stayed longer, will definitely be back! Adam & Dianne. A clean, comfortable place to stay, not being able to go out and about we were well entertained by watching the dogs playing, the rabbits, pheasants, fox and numerous birds. Pity Christine & Keith forgot to book the deer though! Vic, Helen & Victoria. Wow! What a fabulous place and such fabulous hosts. A stunning setting and the pool is the cherry on the cake. We have thoroughly enjoyed Jack's 1st holiday and he has got so much out of it. An excellent day at Norfolk Wildlife Centre - great value (very hands on) and excellent food at the oz restaurant. We've been so busy we need to return for a rest! We owe Niki and Alan many thanks for the recommendation. Paula, Barry and baby Jack.

A relaxing stay in winter(should have been spring!) saved by much swimming in pool and enjoyable walks on fine beaches Overstrand - Sea Palling-Yarmouth. Our lovely friendly hosts chrissy and Keith smoothed our break. A welcome change-we shall return! Foster Family
The property just as advertised-relaxing and away from it all. A lovely area with much to see and do trips to wells & Cley'Next'The Sea wellworth the visit and the coast road with views excellant. Seapalling an amazing sight best viewed at low tide 3 days not enough we too shall return Gay & Mike
Very nice cottage and very helpful hosts, made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The pool was great for the children and kept them amused, will recommend to friends. Brendan Jeanette & family

lovely place would recommend!

We stayed at the cottage with our 2 children (3 and 1 year old). The grounds surrounding the cottage are beautifully maintained and wonderful for the children to run around in. The cottage was very homely with all the necessities required for a comfortable stay. The children slept in one bedroom which was on the other side of the cottage from the master bedroom (living room, kitchen and hallway in between). The living room was a nice size for us and our friends who were a couple with 1 child staying in the adjoining cottage.
The swimming pool outside of the cottage was a nice size and it was leisurely having full access to it, as our friends were in the next cottage. Otherwise, there would have been time slots to use the pool. The hot tub was a perfect way to unwind and we loved the opportunity to dine al fresco right by the pool.
It was nice to be close to the city (Norwich - 20 min drive) yet to be in serene calm surroundings - we even saw a deer in the forest area behind the garden!
A 30-45 minute drive later takes you to the Sea, where we would recommend the poppy line steam railway - (great fun for the children albeit a short journey).
Chrissy and Keith were very welcoming; we would definitely come back to this cottage and have already recommended it to friends!
Owner's Response: When different parties are occupying the cottages, so they have the pool and hot-tub to use privately we give both cottages time slots, one day Dove cottage has the early morning slot 8.00a.m to 10.00a.m and 15.00pm to 17.00p.m,Squirrel 10a.m to 12.00, 17.00 to 19.00 if they are going out for the morning they can tell the guests staying in the other cottage by writing on the dry wipe board which is in the pool house so guests in Squirrel cottage can use. The times alternate for cottages each day. Even when there is a chilly wind or rain guest find the temperture in the pool house comfortable to swim in the heated pool and finish of in the hot-tub.
The main garden has a badminton net (rackets supplied) guests usually bring other outside games with them some guest brought model planes to fly in the large garden. If guests want to burn of some calories the garden is ideal to run/walk taking in the peaceful scenery.

Easter Break 2012

Very warm welcome and lovely accommodation. The weather was terrible but the swimming pool and hot tub made up for it. We hade a great time and hope to go back next year.

Lovely Holiday

We were fortunate enough to book Squirrel Cottage for a lovely family holiday in August. The cottage had all that we wanted and the swimming pool and hot tub were great. Our boys enjoyed running around the garden and it provided a great base from which to explore Norfolk.

We would thoroughly recommend the cottage for families and old and young alike.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities
Owner's Response: Where we are situated it makes it easy to explore Norfolk where a lot of attractions are less than 30 minute drive away e.g Dinosaur Park, Pensthorpe (featured on spring watch), wroxham for a day on the river. The large main garden is great for playing football, badminton, cricket, bats and rackets supplied.

A very relaxing break

Squirrel Cottage is tucked away in a very rural location but within easy reach of Norwich and the coast. We had a lovely stay in the cottage which was well-equipped with everything we needed. Having exclusive use of the hot tub and pool is a real bonus. Lovely garden with views of the woods. Chrissy very welcoming, helpful and unobtrusive. She made us very welcome. A lovely touch to find tea, coffee, milk, washing up liquid etc all provided on arrival.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children
