It is ideally placed for touring this fascinating region, which is full of historic houses and sites and famous gardens. Longleat (house, theme and safari park) Stourhead gardens, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves are all within easy reach, while Bath, Stonehenge and the sea are just over an hour's drive away. Our visitors often comment on how much there is to do and see in the area and we get lots of repeat bookings. Castle Cary town has a tiny museum and numerous interesting shops where you can get food and necessities and also gifts, books, clothes and antiques. Behind the cottage is the site of the original castle - long gone - but offering a hilly walk with great views. From our guest book: 'What a charming cottage - even more impressive than the pictures on the website....and we were simply fascinated by the well!' The interior design is excellent and totally compliments the stone floors and wooden doors etc...... Its an absolutely brilliant place to stay - we loved it so much we'll definitely come again - but for the whole summer!' After years of hacking down the A303 to Cornwall we now realise what a beautiful area we have missed, lovely towns and villages, friendly people and a gem of a cottage. We will return!'

Stunning venue

Review Submitted: November 14, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
For a family of three this is an excellent setting for a holiday. Though we were travelling by car, the fact that Castle Cary has a train station must surely make it attractive for all sorts of holiday makers. The welcome we received from the owners was extremely warm and got us off to a good start. The cottage itself if spacious and fully centrally heated. It has two majot attractions - the real fire and the well in the kitchen. That's right, there's a well under the kitchen. Covered with a perspex tile, it is of course entirely safe and the light means that you can see the water bubbling away below you. Our eleven year old certainly found it an attraction!

Castle Cary is within easy reach of all the attractions - Weston-super-Mare, Longleat, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, Wells Cathedral, as well as various farms and museums. The town itself is also well-equipped with amenities, meaning an enjoyable night in is well within your grasp.

I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough - spacious, convenient, affordable, comfortable, historic.
