Yorkshire Dales historic cottage in hidden tranquil setting in Masham
Attractive cottage in a secret meadow only a few moments’ walk from Masham Market Square (and the pubs!) in the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage is simply but comfortably furnished with a new bathroom and good quality furniture. Guests are welcome to use the huge garden which fronts onto the River Ure, as well as relax in our outdoor hot tub. There are masses of beams, open fireplace, quirky details and plenty of books, games to play and jigsaws to complete. This is an ideal place to come to relax, recuperate and feel re-inspired. You can choose to be quiet and contemplative, indulge your artistic streak, go out for bracing walks in awe-inspiring countryside or while away the hours in one of Masham’s excellent pubs. | Notes: | This is a place to come to relax, to talk to each other, to enjoy the outdoors and get away from the hustle and bustle of your normal life. TV reception is lousy so there isn't a TV but we do provide lots of interesting books, games, jigsaws and some quirky features that you'll only discover once you're here. An ideal base from which to explore the Dales but we find most people just flop about the garden or venture as far as the pubs! |

Lovely peaceful converted mill cottage
travelmum, Leicester, England
Review Submitted: June 03, 2008, Date of stay: May, 2008
We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May (half-term)week with our two children ages 12 and 10. We chose it because of its location which is right on the edge of the Dales, but close enough to the A1/M. Our children had to revise for their end of year exams and so it was the perfect place with no t.v., but a hot-tub for us all to enjoy. We really didn't miss the t.v. at all and after a long day out with plenty to see. The large bedrooms had really comfortable beds with great sheets and duvets. The bathroom always had plenty of hot water. The open-fire in the living room was great with plenty of logs available. The only down-side was that the kitchen is a little out-dated, the cooker worked well, but could do with up-dating and a microwave would have been helpful. The cottage is full of beams and is very pretty with nice furniture. Susan our host left a 'welcome pack' for our arrival which consisted of bread, milk, butter and eggs which was very useful and great considering we arrived late. Susan was very helpful in answering all my questions regarding the area, she gave some very good tips. The places we would recommend to visit are, The Forbidden Corner (never been anywhere like it), you have to pre-book. The children loved it. How Stean Gorge is a world heritage site and is lovely to see. Brimham Rocks was a great place to go with the children, really interesting rock formations, great place for them to climb and explore. Jervaulx Abbey is also well worth visiting. The town of Hawes is lovely to see with its Wensleydale Cheese Factory. We loved the towns of Askrigg (All Creatures Great and Small),West Burton,Grassington,Kettlewell (Caldendar Girls),Pateley Bridge,Middleham(Richard III castle) Aysgarth Falls is lovely too. Masham itself is lovely with a huge square and lots of lovely shops. Suncatchers Cafe was great for lunch. The Saturday market was great for fresh fruit and veg. and the local butchers shop had great bacon, eggs and sasauges, and the bakery is good for your daily bread. The Co-op is handy too. We visited Harrogate on the way back home and went to Bettys Cafe for lunch which was great, but a little pricey for what you get. But that didn't stop us going to the one at Ilkley later on for Afternoon Tea! Think we might sign up for the Cookery School! The Bettys in Harrogate is much better than the one in Ilkley. Well we had a great short break and we would definitely stay at this cottage again and would recommended it to others.
