Notes: A further note on seating - the lounge & family room both have seating for 8, but a number of the chairs are easily portable from room to room if 10 are staying. There are toys & games available for guests' use, and a selection of videos & DVDs. Due to age (the house is 250 years old), the stone floors on the ground floor are somewhat uneven, with steps to some of the rooms, hence saying the property is unsuitable for wheelchairs, or elderly or infirm. The washing machine and tumble dryer are situated in the cellar down stone steps, which are reached through a door in the hallway. The large garden is a particular feature of the property, and includes an orchard and a wooden wendy house for children. The field (7 acres) is sometimes grazed by sheep, and has a small lake, stocked with roach and carp. You are welcome to bring fishing rods!

Local Amenities: The house is about 1 mile from the village, with easy parking. Within the village there is an excellent greengrocer and two butchers - all of these stock locally grown/organic produce. There is a co-op which has all the basics, including fresh bread, a chemist and a post office. There is also a very good wine shop. The tea room sells lovely cakes, also light lunches. There are two good pubs - one at the end of the lane, a three minute walk from the house - the food here is excellent, summer and winter. There are also two supermarkets within a five minute drive from the house, and a fish and chip shop. In Storrington, about five miles away, there are several very good restaurants.

Tourist activities: Contact the owner for more details of places to visit both in the local area and further afield.

Availability: Holme Street House is still available for Easter weekend '08, and February half term!

Other Activities: gliding, ballooning

Perfect!!

Review Submitted: June 30, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Holme Street House more than surpassed our expectations! The house is beautifully furnished, yet comfortable and welcoming, and the garden is glorious, with little seating areas hidden among the rose bushes and shrubs. The pool is in excellent condition and heated, and we would have used it much more of the time had the weather been warmer. As it was warm and windy we took many walks on the South Downs Way (5-10 minutes drive away) with views all the way to the coast (fantastic!) and a hike opposite the White Bear towards a little village church and and the Brooks bird/nature reserve. We ate at three local pubs,The White Hart at Stopham bridge, The White Bear at the bottom of the road, and the Swan Inn, both inside and outside in the gardens, and found them all excellent.
The house is as described, and there are lovely extras provided, such as a well stocked kitchen and use of the phone for local calls, the beds are very comfortable and there are books, games and DVDs if you need to stay inside. The welcoming owners gave us great recommendations for a local caterer, pubs etc, and we used all of them! Pullborough is a very small, fair trade village in a glorious part Sussex, and the house itself is about 5 minutes walk from the village. There are all sorts of attractions such as pretty villages, National Trust properties, castles etc with 20 minutes driving distance, and the coast is about 30 minutes away. Oh, and Pullborough Station is on a direct line from Gatwick, very handy for visitors without a car! We definitely hope to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone!

A delightful place to relax

llanvair USA
Review Submitted: March 29, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
We rented this cottage for two weeks in August 2008. We needed somewhere to stay prior to our daughter's wedding, and this provided us with the perfect location for us to relax in before the wedding, and prepare for the wedding itself. the grounds made a lovely backdrop for photographs prior to the wedding itself. The large kitchen with its Arga (which was surprisingly easy to use), gave a warm feeling to the house, and the electric hob gave us additional cooking facilities. The two living rooms meant that we were not on top of each other, and we dould watch TV or relax in the other sitting room without the noise of the TV. The large dining room, together with the kitchen, meant that we were able to ivite family and friends after the wedding.
Shopping was easy, and the countryside around meant that we could go walking when the wather permitted.
Internet access would be benefit - we were able to access the internet using wi-fi, but reception was not good or reliable.
Altogether an excellent venue.

Beautiful house, really cosy and has a real old world charm. Great pub for dinner just 2 minutes walk from the house but the house has everything you need to stay in.
Owners were really helpful with suggestions and very professional to deal with. We would definitely return with a group.

Family holiday home

Review Submitted: December 7, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We had a family holiday here in October and found this to be a perfect home away from home for us, with the close proximity to rail station, supermarkets and short walk to the pub.
The home itself is situated in a lovely , tranquil country setting . The house had lots of space for the family and was well equipped for family needs , even a wee fellow of 1 year.
We would certainly consider this rental again.
