| Notes: | Big favourites are Teasle and Tiggy our Springer Spaniel and Norfolk Terrier who both love visitors and especially children. Boogy boards for Polzeath, Constantine and Tregardock beaches can be borrowed and bicycles can be hired in Wadebridge for the Camel Trail which passes close by at Hellandbridge. We can advise on walks, historic houses, golf (we both play St Enodoc), EdenProject, Helligan and other great gardens, eating out and art & pottery galleries. The Gardenhouse garden with its camellias, magnolias and azaleas is at its best from Jan to Jun and is a private sun trap. The accommodation and bathrooms are all upstairs and can be accessed using either the outside starred entrance or the internal wide flight of stairs - hence suitable for elderly but not ideal for wheelchairs. Please bring beach towels. Clothes can be tumble dried in the farmhouse if necessary. Broadband internet access and Sky TV by arrangement with the owners in the main farmhouse. |
Cornish Gardens
The owners, Gage and Liz Williams, can give advice on gardens to visit with the best time of year between March and June for camellias, magnolias and azaleas at Caerhays, Trebah, Lanhydrock, Trewithen, Tresco in the Scillies - a day trip by helicopter, Antony, Cotehele, Pencarrow and others. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are also about 30 minutes away.
Activities & Bookings
On request, the owners can send you an Activities Sheet showing what there is to do and see and giving telephone numbers for early bookings for sailing, riding, fishing for salmon and sea trout in the nearby Camel or lake fishing for trout, coastal and Bodmin Moor walking, cycle hire for the Camel Trail (1 mile) and elsewhere, water skiing, surfing lessons and advice on where to shop, cinemas etc. With notice, we are prepared to help with dropping off or picking up walking parties. Babysitting can also be arranged.
Gage and Liz Williams will send by e-mail an 'Activities' brochure to help plan your holiday and make early reservations at restaurants, pubs, water skiing, tennis etc. They can also e-mail you a map and directions. They can help by making reservations on your behalf. In 2006, Sainsbury's opened a supermarket in bodmin in addition to Bodmin's Asda and Morrisons stores. There is an excellent mini-mart 2 miles away at St Kew Highway with its own bakery, ideal for picking up a picnic en route to a wide choice of north coast beaches. Please bring beach towels.
Other Activities Lanhydrock, Pencarrow Houses. Bodmin Steam Train.
Golf Information:
Ideally located for golfers especially during the autumn, mild winter and spring months when Cornwall's 11 links golf courses remain dry underfoot and uncrowded. Strongly recommended are St Enodoc (36 holes where we are both members - designed by James Braid 115 years ago - at Rock (10 miles) - recently rated the 23rd best course in the world by Golf World, Trevose - rated 59th best in UK in Golf Monthly, Newquay, Perranporth - another James Braid course, Bude, Lelant and Carlyon Bay. Further afield are both Saunton and Westward Ho! St Kew Highway (2.5 miles) has a 9 hole course and practice range. There are also superb inland courses such as St Mellion - 36 holes (Jack Nicklaus designed), Lanhydrock, Bowood and Tehidy. We can help with bookings.

My wife and I went to stay with Gage and liz and Teasle the springer and Tiggy the terrier. We are dog lovers and will not stay away in the U.K if our little springer spaniel "Shelley " is not with us.Gage and Liz made our stay very relaxing and comfortable ,Gage was a superb host and made our choices on our break very easy with his local knowledge of restaurants and local pubs ,even making bookings for you if you required!Liz was a wonderful cook and host and together with the little dogs ,made our stay very pleasant indeed. Our little dog is now blind and will need a pleasant and safe place to stay when we visit our Cornish family again and I can honestly say we will go back to Menkee again as it is a superb place to stay .Menkee is a clean and very relaxing place to stay in Northern Cornwall and is good value for the standard of accomodation.
