The only self-catering lighthouse TOWER available in England as self-catering accommodation. Live just 'like a lighthouse keeper' in an 8-storey ivory tower by a six-mile stretch of golden beach. Dine with the best views in Somerset in the lantern room which has a glass floor and polished copper-domed roof. On a clear day you can see for 22 miles from the balcony! The lighthouse overlooks Burnham & Berrow Links golf course. The original lantern has been preserved and the tower is fully-furnished & decorated with intriguing nautical antiques. All bed linen, soaps and towels are provided. Our fully equipped galley kitchen has every modern appliance for your comfort. The tower is WIFI enabled - guests have 24hr use of FREE broadband. Well-behaved PETS are WELCOME, but we ask the owners to restrict their movement to the ground floor reception area. Climb 120 stairs and a ship's ladder to reach the top. Parking for up to 3 cars in a secluded private driveway complete with patio/barbecue

Burnham-on-sea is an old-fashioned Victorian seaside town, much smaller than neighbouring Weston-super-mare. Set on award-winning blue flag golden sand-dunes, the High Lighthouse is an ideal place to spend a family seaside holiday and explore the Westcountry from. Only 2 miles from M5 Jctn 28 within 10 minutes you can be in Somerset cider country. There are hundreds of family friendly pubs selling good home-cooked food. Willow is grown for basket-making on the levels Somerset is dotted with pretty villages and cider farms. The challenging Berrow Links golf course is only a few hundred yards away. There's plenty to do; visit Glastonbury, famous for it's rock festival, mystical Tor and Abbey. Go shopping in Wells or the Roman city of Bath. Take the kids to the showcaves at Cheddar Gorge, a steam train at Minehead or see the aquarium & pier at Weston. Or there's windsurfing, sailing, sand-yachting donkey rides on the beach, glorious walks on the Mendips - or why not just fly a kite?

  • The main bathroom is a beautiful space in which to relax. The antique bath - which can comfortably fit 2 has a hand-held shower attachment and is overlooked by a ship's figurehead.

  • The master bedroom & second bedroom are both en-suite with power showers inside curved cubicles - elegantly furnished. Bedroom 3 is a smaller bedroom ideal for children with a double futon bed, en-suite WC and basin. It has a treasure chest full of toys for budding pirates/sailors/lighthouse keepers. A cot can be made available in bedrooms 1 or 2. A highchair is also available - the dining table seats six comfortably. The lighthouse has a separate bathroom complete with an antique, french cast-iron roll-top bath.

Notes: Many elderly guests have spent memorable and enjoyable holidays in the lighthouse. It must be stressed the building has 120 STAIRS and would be inaccessible for people with limited mobility. Sadly we have no room for an elevator/lift. This is a 200 year-old historic lighthouse tower. TOP TIP - Take your time - plenty of pauses to catch your breath on the way-up and DON'T forget your keys at the top!!!

Lighthouse guidelines: The lighthouse is a unique family holiday home, we do NOT accept bookings from Stag Nights or Hen Parties. We reserve the right to decline bookings from large single-sex groups. CONTACT-US for further information. There is a strict NO-SMOKING policy throughout the building. We have installed sprinklers and smoke-detectors to reduce the risk of fire BUT any guest breaking this rule will be asked to leave the property immediately. Well behaved Pets are welcome - but must be restricted to the ground floor only. The lantern room has a glass floor and is accessed by a steep ship's ladder. NO SHOES in this area please!

Golf: Burnham & Berrow Golf Club uses the High Lighthouse on it's Coat of Arms as a symbol. The tower overlooks this challenging links course set in the sand-dunes behind the beach. We have been advised that all of our guests will be made welcome at the club and enjoy enhanced rates. Expert tuition is available for beginners - but this may well have to be booked in advance - please CONTACT US with your requirements. From the balcony of the lighthouse you can see most of the course. While sipping Gin & tonic or a malt whisky on the balcony - it is possible to call a fellow player on his/her mobile phone to congratulate/commiserate them on their stroke. Binoculars are provided for this purpose! The course offers the perfect excuse to get away from parental duties such as building sandcastles for a while - a short stroll through the rough of only a few hundred yards takes you directly to the beach.

Other Activities: Pretty much everything imaginable Somerset & The Westcounty is a great location
