Enjoyable holiday in Bideford

I stayed at the Old School House with my 18-year old daughter and her friend, and my son and a nephew, both 12, for a week over the Easter break. We found the house to be cosy and warm, with very comfortable beds. The kitchen had all the usual mod cons, and the laundry room came in handy for the many muddy/sandy clothes handed in over the week. We were lucky that we met the vicar as we arrived and she allowed us to use the church car park on the days when services weren't being held. Otherwise, ensure you pay the amount in the car parks as the traffic wardens are red hot!
My only criticism of the house is that the lighting is so poor in the living room that you couldn't read in the evening, and I had taken work which I had planned to do at the end of the day but was not able to as I couldn't see well enough. We plugged in the lamps from the other rooms but they did not make enough difference. One in the smaller bedroom did not work, as did one in the living room. I changed the bulbs but they still didn't work. Other than this, there were a few minor niggles which would be great to fix and I mention them in case these have not been brought to your attention. The signal on the main TV was very poor so we could only watch a couple of channels on Freeview, and we could only get the other TV's to work, and could not find any instructions for them.
The upstairs showerhead holder was broken. It had been previously taped in place, and someone had also stuck some card in to try and keep it in place, but these didnt work, and I couldnt find any other remedy. Also, the lock on the upper bathroom door is broken. A fuse tripped out twice during our stay and I had to call the owners to find the fusebox. Was easy to reset once I found it. Again, instructions would be useful.
Sally, the housekeeper, was great with the boys and entertained them all week with her hedgehogs, which they loved. Thank you, Sally!
A couple of recommendations: If you have children, visit The Big Sheep - we went twice and it was great fun. If you like views over the sea, go to Hartland by the lighthouse (fab little hut serving great sandwiches!), and then stop off at the next two places south along the coastline for gorgeous views and isolated beaches. For dinner, we highly recommend The Riverbank across the bridge. It was busy so I'd suggest booking, but we had a really enjoyable evening there.
Owner's Response: Thankyou very much for your review. All feedback is very much appreciated. As we do not reside at the property it is very handy to know any things that are not quite up to scratch so we are able to deal with these issues for future guests. In response to your 'niggles':-
1/ All table/bedside lamps are now in working order.
2/ The lounge is now brighter as we have more lamps and have fixed the one not working.
3/ We have replaced the Freeview boxes in 2 rooms and the TV is now fine in the lounge with several channels available.
4/ We have replaced the upstairs bedroom TV and this is now working fine.
5/ We have rewired the TV cable to the downstairs bedroom which is now working fine.
6/ The shower head in the upstairs ensuite has been fixed.
As previously said, we do really appreciate feedback be it good or bad so we can address issues accordingly.
Very pleased you had a good week and if you wished to rebook in the future we could offer you a 10% discount.
