Notice our SIMPLIFIED BOOKING PERIODS and short breaks. This property is ideal for one or two couples who love great scenery and/or walking, and for families. Plenty of nearby attractive villages with interesting churches and shops. And many footpaths in woods, dales and on the open moors. Helmsley is a delightful small market town on the southern edge of the North York Moors and its national park. You can get all necessary supplies in the town's shops, and there are also numerous tearooms and pubs, gift and clothing shops. Helmsley and many nearby villages have many pubs with good food, and other amenities. Anyone who enjoys country walking will find Helmsley to be the ideal base. Or, use our house as a base to explore the moors, the seaside and York - all of which are within 25 miles. The World of James Herriot at Thirsk is just 15 miles away. Castle Howard is also nearby, and Duncombe Park, home of Lord Feversham, is an easy 1-mile walk from our house. There are also small delights, such as Kirkdale, with a historically-important cave, and Kirkdale Minster church with a Saxon sundial. Non-smokers only please, and no pets or young children.

Notes: Kitchen is fully-equipped and large enough for visitors to entertain. Dishwasher, clothes washer-dryer, microwave, and enough dishes and cutlery to have a meal for 8 people. Dining table easily seats 6, and can serve 8 people A small LCD TV with DVD player, or the CD player, helps on rainy days and winter evenings. Multi-channel freeserve. There is an extensive library of information and a book of tips about places we like to visit, and local maps and walks books. A small picnic table in the garden seats 4. There is parking for 2 cars, one in the street. Although we do not encourage young children, the house is very suitable for children aged 6-8 or more; in summer there is a nearby public open-air heated swimming pool and play area.

Here are a few of them: * ...the perfect home away from home. We've walked for miles, eaten too much and quaffed a few ales. All-in-all the holiday most dream of. * Helmsley is Heaven ! Helmsley and area is like dropping into another world - so beautiful, peaceful and friendly. * A dream of a holiday! We all wish that we could stay longer in perfect Helmsley. ...we were always delighted to be returning at the end of each days' adventures. * We stayed here for one week last year... this year we returned with my parents and spent our whole two-week visit here in Helmsley. The house, as before, was perfect. * I want to thank you most sincerely for the level of comfort you provide to your guests. Every possible convenience has been thought of and having stayed in other self-catering homes over the years, I can say how much we truly appreciate it.

Other Activities: Great scenery everywhere - walking, visiting castles, abbeys and plenty more.

Wonderful place and perfect vacation area

First off let me say this was the best vacation we have ever had. The cottage was everything we dreamed of and more. There was plenty of room and it was VERY clean and quiet. We were given a very nice introduction and tour as well as a guide written by the Mason's. The guide had a ton of helpful information about the town, surrounding area and cottage itself.

We could not ask for a more charming town and area filled with things to see and do. A car is a must...as there are many things in the neighboring towns to see.

As stated before the Mason's and George (local contact) were very helpful and responsive to all questions no matter how small. I highly recommend this location and more importantly this cottage for a pleasant vacation. We are sad its over, but we will be booking again.

Very nice holiday!

The described house was a very good place to stay. We were there with our 3 children at age 22, 13 and 9, and we all enjoyed the time. Helmsley is a little but very nice town, and you get everything you need. When we arrived the house was clean and all bedrooms were prepared. There were even fresh flowers on the table! It makes sense to have a car in that area because there're a lot of nice places and towns to visit. With 100% good conscience we can recommend this lovely place to other families!

we stayed here for 4 days in july, you couldn't ask for a better location, very quiet yet only 4 mins stroll to the market square with all it's charming shops, deli's, 3 or 4 nice pubs and small supermarket.
The house has everything you need, comfortable and clean, it is ideally situated for sightseeing trips to whitby, scarborough, the moors etc. include a trip to eden camp if you can.great value for money
parking is good, right outside.Also a nice sunny private rear garden. We would not hesitate to book again.
