More experienced divers will love the dive sites of Coffins Patch and the wrecks of Busch Wreck and Thunderbolt Wreck.

Fishing is wonderful from Marathon accommodation, attracting fishermen from many miles during the spring to enjoy the excellent tarpon fishing in the area. There are many miles of flats from which to fish if you haven’t got access to a boat, but there are so many charters, fishing parties and boat rental possibilities from a Marathon villa that you will almost certainly be able to head out into the ocean and give yourself the best possible opportunity to catch a record fish. Shark fishing is a particularly exhilarating way to spend a day from a holiday rental in Marathon.

Sombrero Beach is one of the finest spots in Marathon, with a beautiful, sandy beach on the open ocean side of the island. The beach is beautifully clean, and offers all the facilities you could require whilst on a beach break. There is always plenty of space on the soft, white sand on which to lay your towel, and if you would like to enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea, the water remains blissfully warm all year round.

Walking and cycling is still allowed on the old Seven Mile Bridge, which was replaced in the 1980’s, and the quarter mile stretch to Pigeon Key is a fantastic route to walk or cycle, especially if you take the trolley service home.

Marathon is a fantastic place from which to explore the whole of the Florida Keys. The drive across the stunning Seven Mile Bridge is an absolute joy in itself, and there is not a single part of the Florida Keys, from Key West to Key Largo, that cannot be visited on a day trip from a holiday rental villa in Marathon. The world class game fishing in Islamorada and the incredible scuba diving and snorkelling in the John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo are particular joys, both easily accessibly from Marathon.

Weather in Marathon, Florida Keys

Marathon enjoys a fantastic yearly climate. Temperatures vary little from month to month, with average daily temperatures from July until September hovering around the 32˚C mark, whilst from January until March, you can expect temperatures during the day to reach around 25˚C on the majority of days.

Cheap flights to Marathon, Florida Keys

Marathon Airport (MTH) is a tiny airport, receiving flights from just two airports on the Floridian mainland. Luckily, one of these is Tampa International Airport (TPA), which receives direct British Airways flights from London Gatwick (LGW), which means a Marathon holiday rental is not as far from home as you might have thought. Another excellent alternative for reaching Marathon accommodation is to fly to Miami International (MIA), and drive along the incredible bridge network to Marathon.
