The Lodge is situated in a beautiful part of France. The Auvergne is in the agricultural centre of France and as a result there is a fantastic choice of food and restaurants. While the Lodge is very tranquil, there are a couple of large cities nearby with shopping and entertainment. In the countryside around the Lodge there are plenty of activities - walking, biking, canoeing, riding, adventure parks, chateaux and caves. It is still an unspoilt part of France with few tourists and friendly locals. People that have stayed have said that they enjoyed being truly abroad!

Family Holidays: Enjoy quality time with your family in this tranquil location in the chateau grounds. Relax and savour the delights of the grounds or go further a field and sample the great range of local activities. Within the grounds - swimming, tennis, fishing, boules, walks. Pre - school children can enjoy local horse riding, Vulcania – scientific volcanic theme park; Le Pal – theme park with rides and animal shows; Vichy on summer Thursdays – street entertainment & workshops; Puy de Dome, the highest volcano; Bee farm. In addition for older children :Squirrel Park - fantastic climbing and assault courses through the trees – highly recommended from 5 – 95; canoeing in the local Sioule river; Biking; Caves; Chateaux including jousting tournaments; Dinosaur exhibition; Archery; Haunted castle; Go karting; Quad bikes; Golf.

Holidays without families: Many people look forward to a holiday away from families, when they can enjoy themselves amongst adult company. The Lodge offers a great retreat from the younger generation - and other people in general, if you so wished! As there are no nearby houses and just the country lane that passes the property, the only noises likely to break the incredibly peaceful burbling of the river are tractors, horses and wildlife – plus the occasional canoeist who gets stuck in the shallows! Great facilities within the grounds for adult holidays; Culture - medieval cities, cathedrals, museums; Night Life - casinos, opera, theatre, horseracing, fine dining; Interesting places to visit - castles, wine tasting, car museums; More and less active - golf, skiing, walking activity parks, biking, canoeing, spas.

Out of Season & Winter Holidays: Many people think a place like the Lodge is only for hot summer months but this just isn’t the case! Enjoy fantastic winter breaks as well as spring and autumn holidays. Mid winter can be really cold and sharp, most years with snow which transforms the chateau into a truly magical place and makes for a memorable Christmas or New Year break! In Spring the river is full of water as the thaw reaches the mountains and some days can be really warm and fresh, while Autumn, possibly the most beautiful season, sees a carpet of conkers in the parkland and the green vine that covers the chateau turn scarlet. Skiing: There are three ski areas, Le Mont Dore, Besse Super Besse and Le Lioran, all close to each other that offer about 150kms of pisted area, just an hour from the chateau. Children are well catered for and there are large indoor activity areas which include skating, swimming, horse riding.

Other Activities: historic towns, spas, activity parks, caves, castles

We had a wonderful, memorable holiday at St Quintin in the most beautiful surroundings. The lodge is extremely spacious and comfortable and perfect for two families. The salon in particular, is huge with plenty of room for adults and children alike to relax. Outside, you find yourself in the most unique setting, with the chateau always in view and the soothing sound of the river constantly in the background. We fished, paddled and walked and although there is plenty to do in the area, we didn't really want to go out! We just went to the village for supplies when the bread and wine ran out! If you like privacy, stunning countryside, wildlife and French delicacies, you will love this magical place.'

Great Family Holiday

John and T Family S England
Review Submitted: September 12, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Our family, fourteen individuals comprising three generations, took the Lodge for two weeks in July/August 2008.

Journeying at the height of the holiday season meant that we arrived rather travel weary. But we were immediately refreshed by the calm quiet beauty of the Lodge and its surrounding. What followed was an idyllic fortnight that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives.

The Lodge and its facilities were just as promised. The magnificent pool, the tennis court, the two large lawns and the extensive grassed areas were ideal for the many games, competitions and ‘unstructured’ activities the family undertook. The braver family members enjoyed exploring the woods. The river was a great attraction for calm contemplation, the grandchildren loved the canoeing and I am sure that any fishermen would find it an even greater pleasure. The serious runners in the family found training runs over the surrounding roads and tracks enjoyable though challenging. And just to stroll the grounds with the views of the chateau and its out buildings was a constant delight.

The Lodge itself had everything we could require. Comfortable bedrooms with plenty of space and storage room. Plenty of well equipped kitchen space. A large room ideal for writing and drawing and games and a very comfortable lounge where the teenagers ended each evening watching their DVDs.

The high spot of each day for us was the evening meal eaten outdoors on the tables in front of the Lodge, when all the family enjoyed the food and drink, the cool evening air, the rabbits hopping about, the quiet broken by the sounds of wildlife, mostly hooting owls, and the unexpectedly bright stars.

Some of us were content to complete the bread-run and shopping trips as their off-site activities. Others visited a few of the numerous local tourist attractions and activities; a near-by chateau, churches and cathedrals, volcanos, horse racing(coming back in-profit) and a climbing centre.

There was something for everyone, whether you were three or seventy three. We were away from the demands of broadband though, regrettably some thought, not the mobile. We were in sunny, spacious and peaceful surrounding and we all loved it. We would go every year if we could.

Christmas 07 at The Lodge

Pianoman London UK
Review Submitted: June 8, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2007
We stayed over Christmas for a week, 8 adults and 5 kids. The location is stunning - in the grounds of a superb chateau aside a running river and with some beautiful countryside walks. The Lodge itself is clean, well equipped and the layout works well, particularly the spacious lounge area and roaring fire on the first floor, as well as the 2 kitchens which made the preparation of Christmas lunch all the easier. The bedrooms are all of a good size and comfortable, with good quality bedlinen and additional touches like dressing gowns. The grandparents also appreciated the solitude of their bedroom on the ground floor! We would certainly return in the summer - I imagine the river and the swimming pool would come into their own - a really idyllic rural setting.

RELAXING HOLIDAY IN ST. QUINTIN

JACOBUS HONG KONG
Review Submitted: May 27, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
An idyllic setting next to the river, with a perfect combination of relaxation and activity for young and old alike. Choose from relaxing around your own private pool, canoeing on the river, a quick game of tennis before supper, or a stroll throught the grounds, all with the fantastic backdrop of the Chateau and its' Chapel. The Lodge is furnished to a very high standard., and we were able to accomodate 3 families in comfort. Further afield the attractions of Puy de Dome, Vichy, the Squirrel Park ,all provide excellent days out, if you feel the urge to venture away from the Chateau. Finally, the area is something of a gourmands' paradise, and there is no shortage of excellent family friendly restaurants nearby. All in all, an excellent setting for a family holiday; be SURE and ask for your own guided tour of the Chateau.
