Le Chene: Barn Rental, 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6 in Pluherlin

We had a very warm welcome from Celia and a fantastic week at Le Chene. It is an authentic barn conversion, but with some nice modern touches like a substantial, top of the range shower. We particularly liked the eating out area overlooking the pool and garden. Pluherlin is a typical sleepy French village, with a handful of shops around the central church. We were there for the annual Fete du Pain which started with a parade through the village before the rest of the day was spent dancing, cider drinking, crepe eating and general rustic fun on the sports field. Le Chene is a two minute walk to the shops, and a ten minute walk in the other direction to the lake. Unfortunately after the Fete the boulanger was exhausted and so was closed for the rest of the week, but bread and croissants were still available from the little bar and the butcher. We had 2 teenagers with us who borrowed the bikes to cycle round the lake and, because the weather was so good, they spent alot of time in the well kept pool (no TV, a bonus in my book, board games were provided and we rediscovered Scrabble!) Tennis, badminton (take your own rackets), pedaloes etc also available at the lake and kept them busy while we enjoyed some of the many circular walks in the area. We BBQ'd nearly every night (mainly as an excuse to visit the village butcher who was such a lovely, jolly man) but the nearby delightful town of Rochefort had planty of options for creperies, pizzas, bars and cafes. It was a nice walk there, but probably wouldn't have walked home in dark. Best large supermarket was a 15 min drive away in Questembert. If you're after a restful stay in a typically French spot within striking distance of some interesting places (Vannes, Carnac, La Roche Bernard etc) then you can't go wrong here.
