A week is not long enough

Grippers Cowbridge, South Wales
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We booked the whole hamlet in August for a week and we had an amazing time. Our party totalled 19 including 7 children and a varied collection of adults from 65 to 28. Everyone was catered for. Each cottage was immaculate with everything you could need. The setting was picture perfect and the weather was brilliant which allowed us all to enjoy the Pool every day. Sally at Daisy Chain Catering provided us with an excellent welcome meal and a superb buffet on our last night.

Sheila and Robin could not have been more helpful but never obtrusive. Our grandchildren especially loved the bread delivery in the morning!!

Le Gohic was so perfect that we did not really want to venture out. However we all enjoyed an evening at the local creperie and some of our party visited Auray and Vannes and the beach at Le Pouldu about 45 mins away.

Everyone agreed this was a most relaxing week and we would not hesitate to recommend Le Gohic to anyone. We would just feel jealous if they went!!!

Our holiday was to celebrate several family birthdays and we could not have found a more perfect place.

Perfect, child friendly holiday

Kevin and Lisa Hertfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: July 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
From the moment we arrived to a delicious meal prepared for us, to when we finally had to drag ourselves away, Sheila and Robin were the perfect hosts. This was our first holiday away with 2 young children (15 month old twins) and we couldn't have picked a better place. The facilities provided in our cottage (Le Puits) were first class, with the additional paraphenalia needed for the children (cots, stairgates etc) all provided and set up for our arrival. The information provided before we arrived, and during our stay was excellent. It couldn't have been easier.

The pretty cottage gardens and grounds are all very well kept, the pool immaculate and welcoming - unlike some places, there is no "artistic license" taken in the photos on the website! The trampoline was a particular hit with the kids, and the games room will, I'm sure, be excellent for future visits. As well as providing a safe and relaxing environment to stay, Le Gohic is also an excellent base for trips, with plenty of places to visit and things to do within an hour's drive. The animal park at Branfere was particularly good for children - definitely worth timing a visit to see the bird display.

Le Gohic is a peaceful, relaxing, child friendly retreat where it is possible to unwind and while away the time in the beautifully kept grounds or by the pool, but with plenty of things to do in the surrounding area to keep even the most active visitors occupied! Sheila and Robin give the warmest of welcomes, we will definitely be recommending the hamlet to friends and family, and look forward to returning ourselves before too long.

Le Gohic; beautiful & relaxing

Phil Sue Alex Matty Sandwich, UK
Review Submitted: June 10, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We rented out the whole of Le Gohic hamlet with 5 families, including 15 children aged 3-9 during late May - early June.

On arrival we were warmly greeted by the owners, Sheila and Robin, and shown to our individual cottages. Each cottage was well furnished & equipped, very attractive and immaculately clean.

The hamlet is set in beautiful lawns and gardens which are pleasure to explore. It is very peaceful with great views over the rolling countryside.

The children had a fantastic time. They could "disappear" into the garden whilst still remaining safe and close by. They had football, climbing, badminton, table tennis and even their "own" "kids only" house. This consisted of a downstairs filled with games, pool etc and a galleried upstairs with comfy seats for the kids to be together in. They loved it.

Then of course was the swimming pool. It was safe with a fence and gate. It was warm. It had lovely views again. It was also great for kids because whilst it was deep enough to jump in, it was OK for 7+ children to stand up. We spent many hours here with the kids enjoying "mini Olympics".

Each morning we booked for freshly baked pastries and bread to be delivered to the door (between 8-8,30am) - delicious. We also twice used the service of a local "chef" to provide cooked 3 course meals direct to Le Gohic (good value, outstanding gorgeous food).

Sheila and Robin were fantastic hosts. Any problems were dealt with rapidly and friendly. They are available to assist and guide but also give you all the space you need to enjoy your holiday. I actually accidentally left my golf club at a nearby golf course. Sheila and Robin phoned the golf club, drove 40Km to collect it and posted it back to the UK for me - wow - that was very kind.

Location wise it was a good base for exploring Brittany. We found a great beach with shade / rock pools, sand, and interesting battlements (Port Louis). Josselyn was a beautiful medieval town including stunning castle and church - well worth a visit. We enjoyed a long boat trip round the gulf of morbihan; stopping off at an island which was great to cycle around. Vannes was another beautiful town. As a family we had our first try at Camors Adventure Forest, zip wiring through trees 50+ ft up. Highly recommended.

Overall an excellent holiday. A big thankyou to Robin and Sheila. We hope to be back in 2011.

Phil & Sue (+ 10 more adults and 15 kids)!

Wish come true!

Armida Baku, Azerbaijan
Review Submitted: May 18, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
After seeing Brittany on the US travel channel, my son and I said, we'd love to go some day.

This trip was a gift from my husband and I, to our son for Christmas, who is 12, and an avid fisherman. Do to uncontrollable circumstances my husband was unable to join us. We took the train from Paris to Lorient, really beautiful, also stops in Auray. Lorient train station has taxi's and car rental.

Sheila & Robin went above and beyond for my son and I, under our circumstances. We really appreciate all their help. And all their hard work to find a place for my son to fish, off the Blavit river and local pound. The wonderful dinner waiting for us was most delicious. I highly recommend. I cannot say enough about Le Gohic, and the beautiful cottage, Maison Principal. It was immaculate. Just bring food and clothes, because everything you need is already there. Truly more than we wished for.

Taylor really had a good time, even though not catching fish, and Dad not there. We felt so lucky to have fished in such a beautiful, peaceful place. Bike rides are a must, just watch the killer hills, unless in really good shape. What an adventure my son and I had, we really laugh now about it. We felt so safe anywhere we were at on our own. The small towns along the Blavit are just beautiful. We went to market in Auray. It was great shopping for sea food, vegetables, and even clothing. I found rain boots for my son. There is so much to do at Le Gohic itself, and the local area.

Sheila & Robin run a really wonderful place, and with such ease. Le Gohic is a place that makes you want to come back again and again. We truly hope to, with the whole family. We know there is so much more to see and do in Brittany.

Sincerely, Martha & Taylor, and Michael too

A Fairytale Like Hamlet

Nikki & Jason North Somerset
Review Submitted: November 20, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
From our point of view, if a self-catering holiday cottage and it's location isn't more wonderful than our own home, we would rather not go on holiday. So, when searching for a 5 star, dog friendly property (with the "wow" factor) in Brittany that would meet our rather high expections, we didn't hold out too much hope - until we stumbled across the website for Le Gohic. It ticked more than all the boxes so we booked immediately and we were delighted when, upon arrival, it more than lived up to it's promises and pictures. It is almost fairytale like and our cottage, Maison Principal, provided everything we could possibly want, and more. Particularly helpful was the pre-trip email information our hosts Sheila & Robin provided as, having not driven through Brittany before, let alone with 2 young dogs, that was one less worry. We especially appreciated our breakfast bag full of croissants and bread hung on the door each morning and the huge granite fireplace which was used every evening just so we could sit and gaze at it! Le Gohic is self-catering at its very best and we would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone wishing for a retreat in this stunning rural part of Brittany.
