The island of Brehat is one of the celebrated jewels of the northern coast of Brittany. Located 8kms from the town of Paimpol, the islands are easily accessible by regular boat service from 8:30 until 19:30, every half hour. Situated 10 minutes from the continent by boat Brehat is car free and circulation is mainly by bicycle.
Brehat, 3 km in length, is part of an archipelago of 96 islands protected by the famous 8 mile long sand strip: the Sillon de talberg. For the amateur of wildlife, the islands are famous for their bird sanctuary and luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation. Fishing, and sailing are the mainstay summer activities.
At the heart of a dense historic region of castles and abbeys in the Paimpol vicinity, Brehat became famous at the turn of the century as a haven for many illustrious painters and writers who came to search for inspiration in the virtues of the special lights and colors of the landscape.
