Photos and Description of this Megrit holiday house La Grange (Sleeps 6), The Farmhouse (Sleeps 6), The Gite (Sleeps 2).

This high quality and character property is situated in a very tranquil part of rural Brittany, yet within convenient access to larger centres (10 minutes to medieval Dinan) and a leisurely 30 minutes country drive from literally 100's of excellent beaches on the north Brittany coast (Cote d'Armor). It stands in its own private grounds of 4 acres and looks down across rich farmland and wooded countryside. You can safely walk, ride bicycles (provided free of charge) around the small local roads from the property, with plenty of scenic variety, from corn and wheat crops to pasture and wooded/forest areas. For children there are swings, table tennis, table football, bikes and spacious lawned areas to the front and rear of the property for games of football, badminton etc. A BBQ area is provided in the courtyard, whilst large patio areas at the rear of the Farmhouse and La Grange also provide an excellent location for outdoor eating and to enjoy the afternoon or evening sunset.

Details for La Grange 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 8, 2 Bathrooms, 1 Separate Toilet

A superb renovation of two early 19th century barns/houses featuring a very large open fire, traditional stone work, exposed beams and lime rendering. Wooden shutters, cathedral style ceilings, abundance of natural light, 3 bedrooms (sleeps 6-8), 2 bathrooms (one en suite) and separate games area (table tennis, table football). Fine local woodcraft throughout. La Grange offers the best of modern luxury, featuring underfloor heating and a delightful mezzanine/relaxation area above kitchen (overlooking living/fireplace). All character features and workmanship of the period have been retained. Has to be seen to be appreciated but would be one of the finest character properties available for rental.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Megrit, France

Beaches & things to do: There is a great variety of things to do in the area without having to spend hours in the car. Within 45 minutes drive there are countless beaches to choose from such as le Val-Andre, Erquy, Sables d’Or, St Cast-le-Guildo, St Jacut-sur-Mer, St Briac, St Lunaire, Dinard, St Malo, Cancale to name a few. Mediaeval Dinan (10 minutes) is a wonderful place to visit, market day is Thursday. Mont St Michel and the cathedral city of Rennes are within an hour’s drive. Within 2 hours drive the tapestries of Bayeux (near Caen) and the war cemeteries of Normandy (Omaha beach) and World War II museums are also worth considering. Closer to home there is horse-riding in Plelan-le-Petit, golf in St Michel de Plelan, swimming, sailing, cycling and pedaloes at Jugon-les-Lacs (10 mins), go karting at Lamballe, a lovely aquarium at St Malo (also walk the ramparts), coastal walks at Cap Frehel, from St Pabu (park on Plage de Caroual) to Erquy or west to le Val-Andre are also recommended.

Places to eat: There are highly recommended restaurants in Plancoet (Creuzil’s – Michelin starred) or more reasonably priced Le Relais de la Source on the Plancoet/St Michel de Plelan roundabout is a highly recommended quality restaurant), Ploubalay (Restaurant de la Gare), and Dinan (Le Viaduc), while for the less-sophisticated but more demanding palate (the kids!) there are lots of nice pizza restaurants, a couple of favourites on the way home from the beach are at Pluduno on the D794 and in Plancoet. The local “Dali” bistro at the Plelan le Petit cross road is also good value.

Directions: 2.5 hours from Cherbourg (N13). Virtually motorway all the way. Direction Averanches / Mont St. Michel (A84) and Dinan (N176) after which you come off at the Plélan-le-Pétit exit (not the Aire de Plélan just before it which is a rest area) some 8km past Dinan. Just over 2 hours from Caen, direction Avranches / Mont St. Michel on the A84. Virtually motorway all the way. After Avranches, follow the signs for St. Malo / Dinan (N176). Do not go to St. Malo but follow the N176 past Dinan until the Plélan-le-Pétit exit some 10km further on. Under 2 hours from Roscoff, direction Morlaix (which you bypass) and St Brieuc/Renes (N12) before branching off on the N176 shortly after Lamballe(direction Dinan/St Malo). You come off the N176 at the Plélan-le-Pétit exit after about 14km. 35 minutes from Dinard Airport. Proceed direction Dinan (via Pleurtuit) to the N176 (7km north of Dinan). Travel south, direction Dinan/Lamballe for 16km & take the Plélan-le-Pétit exit some 8km past Dinan.

The Gite

Oscartheseacat Bedfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: July 25, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My other half and I stayed at the Gite for a couple of weeks in May and had a wonderful relaxing holiday. We have stayed in the area before but this is the first time in this accomodation. Booking was very straightforward, the information provided for the journey (if using Sat Nav the co-ordinates provided are spot on) was excellent and arrival was organised just as stated by the owner. The Gite is very well equipped and provides everything you need. Our only negative comment is that the couch is uncomfortable and would be a problem if you had to sit on it for long. However our weather was good and we spent most of our evenings after dinner out in the beautiful gardens. Definitely a place to put on the "will return" list.

Family Holiday

bloomers Wiltshire
Review Submitted: September 5, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
My family rented La Grange and The Farmhouse during the first week in August. Our party ranged in age from 1.5yrs to 80 yrs. We found the properties to be perfect for our needs, allowing plently of space for 8 children to run around both inside and out in safety, and for the adults to find their own space as well. La Grange has been renovated to a very high standard, and this became the family's main meeting and eating area. The Farmhouse proved to be adequate, but possibly in need of some further renovation to match La Grange. The area is absolutely superb, and we all thoroughly enjoyed exploring the local towns, and beaches. Such a stunning coastline!
Sean and Nigel have been really helpful and very kind in our quite complicated booking - I would recommend both them and their property to anyone.
Don't bother to take your own adult bikes - the selection there is brilliant. As to the ratings, I would rate La Grange as 'excellent' and The Farmhouse as 'good' in their present condition, but as a package for us, the value for money and accommodation was fantastic. If we get the opportunity, we would definately go back again. We even had our own glow-worm outside the front door every evening!
We self catered every evening (taking cooking in turns), and both kitchens are really well stocked with utensils. Needlesstosay, the dishwashers proved invaluable! The local supermarket in Dinan is massive, and has everything you could want, and the local bakery in Megrit served us well for croissant and sticks.
We were only there for a week, but Pehe quickly became home, and everyone in our party really enjoyed the holiday.

Rural Idyll

Silver Spring Washington, DC, USA
Review Submitted: June 13, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
We had a really wonderful time in this extremely pictuesque, comfortable location. We travelled with another family, and there were three younger teenagers between us, who all had a ball. They especially enjoyed the freedom to explore, the lovely beaches, and my daughter got a chance to ride horseback in the village, which she loved, despite speaking no French!
We loved the countryside around, the coast, and especially the proximity to Mount St Michel and the Normandy beaches, which are great day trips.
The house itself is very comfortable and well-appointed, with beautiful views of the lake; we have wonderful memories of meals taken al fresco, on the outside patio. We also had fun eating marvellous seafood at some of the wonderful restaurants in the area.
The property was wonderfully maintained, with bikes and games, and the owners are accessible and very helpful.
We plan to return as soon as possible!

La Grange, Pehe

Fernside Four London
Review Submitted: June 13, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
Our third stay at La Grange this year was our best yet. This is a character farmhouse which is very well kitted out to a high standard. The vaulted kitchen area, with its imposing fireplace, is a real feature and the bedrooms are a good size and comfortable. Outside, the very spacious garden provides a very scenic backdrop for eating al fresco, or reading a book to the evening sounds of birdsong. It would be quite easy spend the whole day there without leaving the grounds.

However, there is much to explore in around the area – we loved cycling around the local lanes using the bikes provided. The nearest village Megrit is very quiet, whereas Jugon Les Lacs is busier with more local shops, café and restaurant. However we haven’t eaten there so can’t vouch for it.

Further afield, the beaches are 30-40 minutes away – our favourite is St Cast Le Guildo, which has a great seafood restaurant overlooking the long promenade beach. Higher up the hill, there are a few smaller beaches in secluded bays – La Pissotte again a favourite, along with others at the spectacular Cap Frehel, Quatre Vaux, and Port Hue north of St Briac. Towns worth visiting include: St Malo and Cancale on the coast, historic Dinan inland, and the Breton capital of Rennes.

Shopping – dead easy, there are Super U stores in nearby Broons, as well as Plancoet and Matignon which you have to pass through if you’re heading for the sea.

The owners – Nigel and Sean – are extremely helpful. We’d definitely recommend La Grange.

A charming place to stay

Beaky Essex UK
Review Submitted: June 9, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
The cottages are nicely situated in a hamlet , the nearest village being 5 mins away. It can be an ideal base to see northern brittany , a trip to the coast , if i recall takes 50 minutes .

Well maintained and very very spacious property. Nice kitchen (which is important in a self catering holiday) . The lack of DVD /Telly maybe a problem , but that can be easily overcome. There is a games room to sharpen up the table tennis skills

The front of the cottages have a patio area which looks over a large grass field , both of which catch the late afternoon sun.

All in all I would recommend especially if a large crowd were going over and you could take over all three buildings.
Owner's Response: The property is very well located to explore the numerous (excellent) North Brittany beaches. The nearest beaches are at ST Jacut-de-la-mer (D19, 20
minutes) and St Cast-le-Guildo (30 mins). Within 45 minutes drive there are countless further excellent beaches (and walks) to choose from such as Le Val-Andre, Erquy, Sables d'Or, St Briac, St Lunaire, Dinard, St Malo and Cancale to name a few.
